Instant re-set, walkaround suggestions

Postby philipsw » Mar 26th, '10, 12:37

I am beginning to put together a set for a charity do in a month or so's time. I will shortly be raiding my cupboards and trying to remind myself of things I have forgotten about. But for now I was wondering about people's suggestions/recommendations for good strolling magic tricks that re-set easily and fit in your pocket...

Answers on the proverbial (electronic) postcard...

:-)

I'm going to assume that I will do some non-card stuff since not everyone enjoys the pasteboards...

How about:

Sponge balls
Crazy mans handcuffs
Bill switch
Ringflight
Thought Transmitter

There are loads of tricks I could recommend, but I don't know your preference or performance style.

There's nothing wrong with sponge balls. Coins, ropes, there are plenty that you could do. What sort of magic are you doing at the moment?

Stand out from who? Other magicians? chances are there are not going to be other magi at the venue. Most people have not seen magic performed, even more have not seen it done live and close up. And even more have not seen magic performed live, close up and well done.

So the above effects will be new and exciting for the audience and those are the folks that count. There is a really good reason the above mentioned effects are some of the classics of the walk around or close up perfomer.

Thanks for all the thoughts already.

I currently do a mixture of stuff - some mental, some card stuff (including packet tricks) and other bits and bobs like endless chain etc.

I am not a regular performer, so to some extent I learn/re-learn stuff for these occasional performances. That being the case, I prefer stuff that is relatively straightforward technically so I can concentrate on performance.

I guess I am hoping to build a set of 6-8 items in a variety of styles.

Things already under consideration include:

Chronologue (or some variation on this)
Common Scents
Entouraage
Bling
Something coin-based
C&R rope routine

but some more thinking required...
