Carter Beats The Devil nears a movie deal......?

According to Glen David Gold, Warner Bros have optioned 'Carter'...

Let's hope it doesn't end up in 'Development Hell', I think it'd make a great picture. How about some fantasy casting amongst us TM'ers....?

I'll start by naming my preferred director for the proposed project:

David Fincher

Right - any offers on who should take the lead role?

**EDIT** Just seen that there is some fantasy casting already in place on that site.... http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/featur ... -devil.php

Adrien Brody, Barry Pepper and Jude Law?? Actually - I could see Jude Law as Houdini!

Ralph Fiennes has always been my fantasy Houdini. Kind of handsome, kind of ugly, and built.

It's been in the offing for a while now. I believe that Tom Cruse bought the rights, but due to his comitments,Its been put back.
Law wont be in this, as there is a follow up to holmes on the cards.

and the best actor to play Houdini, already has .

With the time it takes for films to get made, I reckon Law could happily make two or three Holmes sequels before he needs to start practicing his lockpicking!!!! :-)

as i say, Houdini has already been portrayed perfectly by harvey K, in Fairytale.

Well, he'll be far too old to do it justice by the time this ever gets made!! Shame, they couldn't have got their act together and made a film when the book was first released!!

I could just see a Bad Lieutenant/Houdini crossover.... :D

Eddie Marsan (who played Lestrade in the Sherlock Holmes flick) would be a good fit for the Houdini role.. after all, it's more of a supporting part in the book and he is a fantastic character actor...

Hmmm - he was in The Illusionist, maybe he'll still have his costume (that'll help save on the budget!).

who ever plays him,I.M.H.O Its still a highly over rated book, with little or no factual content.

reviewers have praised the historical content in the past.
they bang on about how much research was done....

it's all from Christopher's illustrated history.

Back in the day when I read this book I have to say I loved it. Although it drags in places, it's a very good read and an inventive plot line.

One thing I really liked is the way it highlights that a technology we all take for granted now would have been seen as magic previously. Which if you look at the historical use of magic is indeed very accurate.
