Seconded. Even people who don't like his films have enjoyed these.

But if you want an antidote to sweeten your palate, I heartily recommend Kathryn Bigelow's movie, Near Dark. It's quite something.

Near Dark is a brilliant film, love it.

Twightlight is just an absolute sack of something brown and sticky. I saw the first one at the cinema with my ex and just could not fathom how bad the film actually is.
The Harry Potter films suck danglers as well.

Want a proper vampire film and don't mind subtitles? Check out Let The Right One In. Very dark and edgy film. Its Swedish I think, though easily available over here.

Quite right too... see it before the yanks unleash their remake (Let Me In)... At least the Swedish book had the decency to be named after a Morrissey song :-)

I will second Let the Right One In. Brilliant film - how a vampire/human love story should be portrayed.

But I do like my Harry Potter and am looking forward to Deathly Hallows with much moisture. My one sadness is that Tim Burton never got to direct one of them.

If Tim Burton could fudge up Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he could certainly make a sentimental mess of Harry Potter.

Count your blessings that he never had the chance!

I don't know, Tim Burton's movies tend to be hit or miss. I think C&TCF was like Zach Snyder and Watchmen; they both really liked the literature that their movies were derived from and due to their respect for the books or comics that they came from, they held back the potential of the movie.

I like both Sweeney Todd and Big Fish but I'm not sure Harry Potter would have been counted among Tim Burton's better movies. Still, it would have been interesting.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Personally I keep wishing that Wesley Snipes will show up during each of the Twilight movies and just kick their arses.

Ironically enough, I did read that all the problems that are in the books WERE edited out, but the writer had to fight with her editor to keep them in. Also I recall that she didn't do any research at all and just made it up as she went along.

I do wonder how Tim Burton screwed up Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. I mean Johnny Depps version looked and acted more like a half wit that made you wonder how a guy like him was left in charge of a huge factory.

While Gene Wilders version didn't and he just seemed more like a eccentric old man who might have been mildly crazy.

I agree, when it comes to Willy Wonka, Gene Wilder is king.

Urg, look what he has done to Alice in Wonderland. The guy is off his rocker these days, he's trying too hard to be edgy and creepy, which just makes it kind of rubbish.

Also didn't know the yanks are remaking Let the Right One In. I don't think Hollywood will be able to be as shocking as that, little kids (even the asshole ones in the film) getting ripped apart in a swimming pool. Can't see the yanks going for that one.

What is it with all the remakes lately? Its like every movie at the moment is either a sequel or a remake. Kind of looking forward to Jason and the Argonauts, used to love the original as a kid.

There's also this. Not quite a remake, more of a sequel/reimagining of the original. Could be very good, or very very poor. Good director and cast though, looks hopeful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igKKWJw8 ... re=related

Just thought of some other decent fang flicks, such as John Carpenter's Vampires, Chronos which is a mexican film, Thirst and The Lost Boys. You want good horror, you generally have to go out of hollywood in my opinion.

The best thing Tim Burton ever did was Sleepy Hollow.

It was all downhill from there.

Getting back to the subject of vegetarian vampires, let's not forget the original!

Well Aliens vs Predator: Requiem had kids gets killed by face huggers, pregnant women get their human babies replaced with alien babies and a few other things.

Yeah the film sucked b*ll*cks and pretty much made a mockery of the Aliens and Predators (which were both my favorite films.). But still they had that shock factor.

The Evil Beneath Loch Ness is possibly the most shocking movie I've ever seen. Although that's purely down to the fact that it's absolutely godawfully sh1te.

i loved Let the Right one In too...however...

it works 'creepy' on many different levels the more you watch it, when you consider the implications of some of the characters, their history and so on...

the book is supposed to be good, its on my amazon list of books...my friend watched, then read - and said there's a couple of bits missing (literally)

on first watch - sweet little love story tinged with bullying, sadness, and vampires...but its only when you consider the nature of the vampire...eurgh...

Speaking of Vampires - it takes a lot of garlic to beat Peter Cushing and Vincent Price.
