I can't really narrow it down to three, as I like all my favourite magicians for different reasons but I can't believe nobody's mentioned Tommy Cooper yet.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

Go and read anything and everything by Eugene Burger. I really feel that you of all people would benefit from reading his material.

Al Goshman
Ricky Jay
Rene Levand

Of course it changes with the mood, but for the most part they are the top three.

Eugene Burger isnt a mentalist. He creates pure theatre, beyond anything anybody else does, and has written a number of books and some dvds, that will teach you how to do likewise.

you can watch him on youtube, and listen to him via his own web site..

Ricky Jay

Good one!

Does he have any DVD's out other than 52 assistants?

I don't have favourites any more, but in my formative years - in order of appearance:

!. Robert Harbin
2. David Nixon
3. Paul Daniels

When I started in magic as a child, my relatives described me as a "budding David Nixon". Later I was a "budding Paul Daniels". Who is the modern (UK) equivalent? I shudder to think...

Hey Eshly,

A wee while ago there was a thread posted with a link to a video of Mr Burger in action, but I think a few people may have missed it... May be worth a gander as he really is one of the great magical thinkers;

I know i am new to magic so i do not stand by these choices, they are the three magicians that i have come across, and have come to admire, since the beginning of my short time in magic.

1 - Definitely Wayne Dobson. All the stuff i have seen by him from both his TV show and other performances, is incredibly entertaining and really well done. I love the way he combines ridiculously funny gags with clever and simple tricks that are easy to appreciate.

2 - Tommy Wonder. I haven't watched much of his performances yet, but from what i have seen is he brilliant and has some incredibly clever tricks.

3 - Im sure i will get slated for this but, David Blaine. I admire him for two reasons. One, his magic. Whether or not people like his monotone persona, i find that his tricks are actually very well performed and quite impressive. Two, i know you will not all agree with me but his endurance stunts are his own, personal form of magic. Whether or not you think of it in that light, holding his breath for 17 minutes took months of dedication and effort, to accomplish something that is amazing in its own right.
