I lost all my magic interest for about 3 months, I just put everything down went away from TM and put my energy into other things. Now I'm back and probabaly keener than I've been in a long time. Sometimes we just need a break.

what smelly ol' lomster said... :P

stay away from forums too - unless you're on top of things, they can often drag you down into that eternal circle of repitition and endless mass-debates

filth!

go out on the razzle, talk to strangers, realise there's a real world out there that doesnt really care about magic and mentalism...

and then when you feel that tickle in the back of your mind when you see something and think to yourself "oooh, that would be good if i could..."

and then it starts all over again...

too much of anything can be detrimental to your overall psyche...

I fail to see how discussing magic on a magic board is unethical. Perhaps you are using the wrong word. If somebody is googling TTs and nail writers, tenkai palms, Goshman Pinches, fingertip longnitudinal palms then chances are they know more about magic then the average bear. So more power to them.

But thanks for making my point about magicians taking themselves way to seriously, and did I mention that they think they are the center of the universe and that they think everyone cares about how they do the tricks?

I'm all for secrecy and I'm against exposure in any and everyway possible, but seriously most people don't give a rats *rse how any of it is done. They may want to know the minute they see it but 10 minutes later it is most often forgotten.

A different interest or hobby is a must as far as I'm concerned. When the attraction of magic fades you still have something else to concentrate on and after a while magic will be of interest again.

I suggest contact juggling.

Sorry, was that combined advice 'contact women' or 'juggling women'?

I think we had a thread a while ago about other interests, my main two are woodwork (very amateur) and cookery (haven't poisoned anyone yet) - not at the same time, of course, but either are a refreshing change from magic and mentalism.

I'm involved in animal rescue, my wife and I release rehabed wild animals on our property for a local wildlife rehabilitator. I'm a little bit of a model train guy although due to space constraints I've pushed that to the side. And I like working with wood, one of this summers projects to bring my workspace up to snuff, right now its a little disorganized.

Going back to Lenoirs very first post; maybe if the problem with magic is the magicians, we need to create a new type of magician. How does the non-magical world view magicians? What is it about the magical community or magicians in general that is problematic?

Who are we?

What is it exactly that we do?

There are plenty of negative stereotypes about magicians but from what I can tell, they all have some basis in reality.

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this but it kind of feels important to me.

i'd also recommend reading the earliest/oldest magic book you own...once the brain kicks in again with that marvel factor, you won't be able to stop...

until the next time that is...

you can end up falling out of love with just about anything, the thing to remember though is the reason why you fell in love with it in the first place...

In full agreement there. When I fell out of love with magic a read of RRTCM had me doing something and going "How the hell did I do that??"

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Maybe it's a seasonal thing but for the past four or so months I've been completely uninspired and had stopped performing altogether.

For the past couple of weeks, I've had a renewed inspiration. So, it may just come back with time?

Plus I found this old book detailing rituals of a "secret-society" buried under books at a thrift store today so I need to find something cool to do with that. :D

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.
