Going to see this tonight in Imax. I'll tell you what I think of it.

(not that my opinion matters )

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

The movie was simply amazing. Easily the year's best movie and one of the best movies of the decade. Brilliantly conceived and wonderfully scripted. There just aren't words to accurately convey the power of this movie.

It was also a rather intelligent storyline and the people next to me in the theaters were texting throughout the movie and by the end they were completely confused . This is a rare thing for a summer blockbuster.

Couldn't agree more - the best film I've seen in ages. Christopher Nolan is by far the most visionary director working in popular cinema today.

Need to see it again soon!!!

(and, I think I've got a bit of a man crush on Leo too - he just gets better and better!!)

Glad to see that you guys liked it, i do think that a lot of people who arent used to thinking when they watch a film will struggle to enjoy it overall though.

I agree, Steve but..... I think, on the whole, the movie going public are pretty savvy really. Nothwithstanding the whole 12-18yr age group who will always be swayed by the current trends, I think most mature audiences appreciate good quality movies. That's probably why flicks like 'Shawshank' and 'The Godfather' are always hovering around the top of those 'All Time Greats' list whilst the 'Twilights' and 'Harry Potters' tend to settle for the financial successes (not a bad consolation, granted!)

I hope this is good in the same way the Matrix was good, not in the same way that No Country for Old Men was supposedly good.

I'd swap those two round if it were me, but then I'm a bit of a film snob and definitely biased in favour of anything the Coen Brothers do. I suppose at least No Country For Old Men won't spawn two God-awful sequels.

I'm off to see Inception this week, and this thread has certainly helped to boost excitement levels.

I only hope you chaps are accurate with your praise...

We are - in fact the wife and I are planning to see it again tomorrow morning at 9.20!!! Was the best time for us, after dropping the kids at school... I'll be 'working from home' tomorrow!!!

I absolutely loathed The Matrix... Whilst the FX were fantastic (particularly the one that made Keanu Reeves looks like he could act...) the plot was absolutely pitiful. I never bothered with either sequel - apparently one even had a rave scene??

I also agree with Grishaw about NCFOM - whilst my love for the Coens isn't quite as all encompassing as his, I recogise them as absolute masters of the craft, regardless of genre. NCFOM was a terrific movie and gave us one of the best bad guys in modern film history in Anton Chigurh!

I didn't catch the bit where Keanu acted i must say. The rave scene was in the second one, and it was interspliced with a Neo/Trinity love making scene. It must have looked really good when they did the story boards. The third one is basically machines firing at those things that were swimming around like mechanical sperm.

In order for me to truly love the Coens, i must blot out Intolerable Cruelty and The Ladykillers and just concentrate on the glory that is Fargo, Millers Crossing, Barton Fink and The Big Lebowski.

Barton Fink was brilliant. Anyone looking forward to the Coen remake of the Western classic True Grit. I read the book recently and think they'll do a great job with the movie.

[EDIT] I don't want to take the thread off track but I thought since we're on the subject of the Coens...

And Grimshaw, you're gonna like this movie if you're a "film snob". It's the rare movie that's action packed and very well written. :)

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

I guess your right sean, now that i think about it, Nolan managed to combine the perfect balance of blockbuster action with his usual narrative and plot devices. The incoming gross of the film is hitting highs already by what ive heard.

I dont mind the matrix, in fact i enjoy them when it comes to some sci-fi fun, but when it comes to Inception and No country, The matrix is out of the league.

For anyone who really enjoyed inception but hasnt seen many of Nolan's older films, i highly recommend you check them out, especially Memento and Insomnia.

I cant help thinking that we are all quite biased in favour of Nolan here, because of his fantastic 'The Prestige', theres very few really succesful films about real magic out there and for those of you who havent seen it he did a wonderful job.

Straying a bit from topic, i am going to get 'Is Anybody There?' with Michael Caine soon on DVD, and i wondered if anyone has seen it? (Mr Caine plays an old retired magician in a OAP Home and teaches a young kid to become a magician.)

This was on one of the BBC channels the other day. I saw it at the cinema and found it most agreeable. As he gets older, Mr. Caine is really pulling some plum roles and performances out of the bag.

To be fair, Caine has always been one of our finest actors but, for some reason, he never really the same respect paid here in the UK as he did overseas. Let's not forget he won an Oscar in the early 80's (although we really should try to forget that he was too busy to actually attend the ceremony to pick it up... he was filming Jaws:The Revenge!)

However, since the Oscar nod for Cider House Rules, he's absolutely shifted into top gear and pulled out some cracking performances... particularly the one in...... Inception!

And, with that, we're back on topic!!!
