What made me laugh was that awful skin-crawling smile he now seems to use whenever faced with a camera - he still insisted on using it when he came out of that old woman's house after doing his grovelling apology!

Oh yes, and when the old woman said "My grandad used to sing the Red Flag down the Union Hall," he responded with a "Ugh?"

If this was The Thick Of It, Malcolm Tucker would have been on the phone to Fox-I-mean-Sky News saying "Bad news, guys: She's BNP" to kill the story.

In other news, the BNP have promised to ban the veil if elected. The British Apiary Society is said to be outraged.

BBC film quite a lot of their radio I think. 5 Live certainly have live webcams in at least one of their studios. 'Tis quite normal

 Nice one Tomo!

I thought his apology was well worded but totally pointless, it was something along the lines of "I apologise for any comment I made which may have been offensive, it's just it was one of her points regarding immigration that I found annoying..."

...or to paraphrase: "sorry, but she p*ssed me off!"

It's like a bit like saying "sorry I called you a jerk, but you were exhibiting behaviour which I find to be quite jerk-like..."

I heard all this unravel as it happened on the radio. I cringed when I heard Mrs D casually slide her dislike of foreigners into her long list of ills. But the poor lady is obviously no ranting fascist. This little cameo really typifies the way immigrants have historically carried the can for all the woes of any country or society when times get tough.

I wish Brown had put his disgust of bigots to one side for a minute, and gently reminded her that this monumental financial mess is all our own doing and cannot be laid at the feet of outsiders residing here..

Immigration is seen as contributory factor to our problems, but when it's seen as "THE" problem, that view needs to be vigorously challenged in my opinion.

I still won't be voting for him though.

Be honest and take the blame for something that's primarily his fault, you mean? Have you gone stark raving bonkers?

I dont know much about politics, but my Dad says its a good thing that the Torys and Lib Dems have both got in as when they balls it up, Labour will get back in again and no one will vote for the other two parties ever again...learn your lessons :(

Hi Sophie, liong time no hear!

If we think about all this, if we face tough times ahead as forecast then the Conservatives and Lib Dems will get the blame so Labour only have to hang on until the next General Election, which might be far sooner that 5 years, for the mood to swing back in their direction.
