Top 5 Commercial Effects - for table hopping

Postby Bertoneski » May 2nd, '10, 13:35

No Card magic - unless a packet trick.

Which commercial magic has stayed in your repertoire year after year... (or the last 12 months at least)?

Easy to master, easy to reset and plays big to a lay audience close up...

Your top fives please.

David Penn's business card transposition. It's hardly groundbreaking, but it kills.

I have had a twenty year absence from magic - see my introduction.

My props and effects are therefore 20 years old.

In the three months that I have renewed my acquaintance with this noble art/expensive hobby/infuriating obsesion I have been overwhelmed by how much magic is out there and how so much has changed.

I would rather investigate - from the pros - what effects they find reliable before purchasing.

For the record my repertoire is:

Disappearing Salt (TT)

Borrowed ring through borrowed spoon.

Pencil through £10 note (Tom Mullica)

Schrodinger's cat - a routine with black spongeballs.

Gypsy Monte - R.Paul Wilson

ESP - International Magic (Not with ESP2 - working on that)

Iain I don'tget to see many magicians performing live and want I thought this might be a good place to ask...in case you thought I might be wanting to buy up and replicate someones entire routine... I don't. I wanted to hear about real life experience.

you know,What's most important is that you do the magic well.
The Audience, probably have seen very little magic live. To them, what you do is new. I would be inclined to update the presentations, and keep the props looking new, rather than going out and buying a whole new load of props. :)

we can chat about this at home counties some time :)

Andrew Normansell's Club Sandwich is a great opener and I've used it for years now. Very easy to do.

It's hard to believe but no one posted a vote for that most ripped-off of all tricks -- Bob Carver's Professor's Nitemare!
