If God didn't want me to eat pigs he shouldn't have made them out of sausages!

Do we have any veggies in here that eat eggs?
Shame on you!

Edit: Meat Exlcusion Clause: My girlfriend is a vegetarian [insert pulp fiction quotation here when i've googled it later]; I will always order like a carnivore in a restaurant though.

There's loads of things a veggie shouldn't do; some of them I encourage.

I'm all in favour of veal. A massive number of bull calfs are slaughtered and just burned because there's no use for them. If there was more demand for veal in this country then many of these calfs would go towards that and there would't be such wastage.

Beef is the only flavor of walkers crisps that is suitable for vegetarians, I am told.

Sounds about as reliable as a Steve Wright factoid! But I could be wrong.

And thanks to Robbie for eloquently outlining my views for me

What an excellent if somewhat unintended pun!

I was vegetarian for 13 years, then whilst I was in France i went back to eating fish, then last year when I had my accident and found eating certain things tricky I went back to eating meat (although I'll admit that I'd known for a long time that my vegetarianism was coming to an end).

My views had come from working as a fish monger when I left school, I objected to the meat eaters who didn't want to accept where their meat had come from and to the waste in the meat industry (we used to order fish in just for display purposes, knowing that no -one would eat them) so I stopped eating it in protest.

But now I'm eating and enjoying all sorts of meat again (recently tried moose and bison).

Red Smarties are the only colour of Smartie that isn't Kosher. Seriously! It's something to do with the dye.

Something which I find slightly strange is the story of how Marmite isn't kosher, not because fo the ingredients but because it's made in a building which uses the same sealed heating system as the Bovril factory next door. From the good ol' interweb:
Marmite yeast extract spread has been listed in the Really Jewish Guide for some time as suitable for a Kosher diet, but with the status of 'not manufactured under Rabbinical supervision'. This listing resulted from Bestfoods UK Ltd supplying details of the manufacturing process and the ingredients used to the London Beth Din.

Marmite spread is made on a dedicated plant from ingredients which would be acceptable for a Kosher diet, is of totally vegetarian origin and is approved by the Vegetarian Society.

The plant has had a number of Rabbinical visits over the years in relation to the possibility of producing a fully supervised product. This has never progressed, largely because of a sticking point relating to the heating pipework which circulates around the factory.

This pipework supplies indirect heating to the cooking vessels for both Marmite spread and also for Bovril drinks but the water circulating through the pipes does not come into contact with either product. It's a fully sealed system, and indeed has to be, for a variety of reasons not related to Kosher status.

We have not made any alterations to the recipe for Marmite spread or the nature of the manufacturing process which might affect its Kosher status. What seems to have changed is the interpretation of the rules, resulting from an informal re-assessment by the London Beth Din of the way in which Marmite spread has always been made.

In essence, the answer to the question of whether or not Marmite spread is Kosher depends on the degree of orthodoxy and adherence to the strict dietary laws governing Kosher lifestyle adopted by the individual.

Red Smarties are coloured with natural cochineal, which is made from crushed bugs. Therefore not kosher, since they contain insect material. Interestingly (or perhaps not), Smarties are about the only foodstuff you can buy nowadays that is coloured with cochineal.

My former sister-in-law was happy to eat any kind of meat as long as it didn't actually look like an animal or any part of one. So chicken stew OK, whole chicken breast OK as long as she wasn't reminded of it, but never wings or legs.

Meat is healthy for you... as much as I love vegetables... and I do LOVE vegetables.. meat is the staple and backbone of any decent meal.

To have a meal without meat is like doing a card trick with no cards.. almost pontless...

unless you have some genious effect where the cards aren't neccessary..

so basically it would need to be one hell of a meal for the meat not to be missed..

I feel vegetarians are missing out... and should at least eat fish.. i'd just about forgive them then..

Vegans... sinful!!

Ah but if your vegan you get telekinetik powers. (A reference most of you won't get till August) And while it's true meat is part of a healthy diet, it's not in the quantities you eat. A healthy balance is to eat meat around twice a week. You don't eat meat for health reasons you do it because you enjoy it or it's habitual, just like most veggies.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

Veggies don't eat meat, silly.

I have a few vegetarian jokes but none are really suitable for an open forum not limited to over 18s. Ask me at a bar sometime.

Do they involve a corruption of the word vegetarian? Perhaps alluding to a much loved part of the female body?

No corruption of the word and usually a part of the male body.
