I watched this movie during my week off, and Ive got to say it's nothing short of fantastic.
It's plot....A fictional account of events surounding the mercury theatres ground breaking production of Shakespere's Julius Ceaser.

This film offers the viewer a facinating glimpse behind the scenes.

And there is much to occupy the magic buff.

Firstly, Welles (strikingly portrayed by newcomer Christian McKay.) performs a number of small incidental magical effects, Mainly to impress the ladies. The magical advisor, Scott Penrose provided effects that felt in keeping with the period that this tale is set..
(match to flower, flaming wallet ect..)
Secondly the theatre in which this was filmed.

this theatre, is on the isle of mann, and has a very long ascociation with magicians, possibly due to the huge range of traps, and other mechanical devices built into it.( which you get to see )

Every member of the cast gives their all, and nobody fails to delight.

It's possible that some may of been put off seeing thins movie, because of its lead, High School Musicals Zach Efron.. but he really does shine in this.

Though for me, Christian McKay...Welles himself, outshines them all..

I would agree with Dale - a marvel of a performance from Christian Mckay and a revelatory turn by Zach Efron (I shall have to watch my daughters HSM DVDs with a renewed respect!)

A cracking film :-)

I vaguely recall seeing part of this some time ago... reminded me a bit of "My Favorite Year", the parody around Errol Flynn... my favorite of all lines being "I'm a movie star not an actor..."

My Favorite year.. another good movie, but a million miles from this one.

Try and see it all Craig.. you will love it!

One of the extras on the dvd, is the play within the film, pieced together.
Its stunning visualy, yet almost all of it down to lights and carefull choreography. Presumably taken from Welle's own notes.
I gather that his family didnt like the way he was portrayed as a womaniser.
this may not be exactly true... but by looking at youtube clips of the real man, Its easy to see that he could of been, as he oozed charisma and charm from every pore.... when he wanted to. :)

Reminds me of the time Elizabeth Taylor was guest starring in a US TV Soap and kept fluffing her lines. She apologised to all & sundry explaining that she 'wasn't used to acting'!
