hey guys,

it's been ages since i've been on this forum or done anything magic related - i was hoping i'd have alot of time when i first joined here, but alas i didn't get the time.

But now - i do! and I'm willing to spend as much time as it takes to get as good as i can with magic, so I'm back to magic - although by back to, i mean back to here to ask questions :D

ok, so i posted in my intro post last year a bit about me, but that's so long ago, so i'll just recap a small part.

basically, i have a disability, which means my hands arn't very strong or dexterous - which means card magic and close up magic probably isn't the best thing for me to do -

so i was wondering what kind of magic you guys would reccomend.
Personally i was thinking mentalism may be the best option, because it seems to not require that much physical movement (some parts of it atleast)

would this be the right way to go in your opinion?

thanks for your time, it is very much appreciated

mentalism does use some physical stuff.
switches, peeks, writing ect, use small movements.Mostly using fingers and thumbs.
but quite a bit might suit you.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Hi,

i've just been reading through a bit,
and one book that sticks out is Corinda 13 Steps to Mentalism.

is this a good book for an absolute beginner?

thanks for your time

Hey Macster!

13 Steps is THE book for mentalism, and though some mentalists consider certain things outdated, most will agree that this is the book you will go back to again and again.

To supplement that I'd recommend Annemann's Practical Mental Effects. Most of the effects there require some writing but you can pick and choose the effects.

You can also look at certain things from Outlaw Effects. Those require minimal dexterity and are 100% about presentation. I can't recommend Kioku highly enough.

I'd sugest 13 steps first...

and Annemans P.M.M.

( And fulves self working mental magic )

as well as Naked. :)

Im sure Tomo would see the logic in this. :)

Good to hear, man!

One thing to keep in mind while reading is that you should read every part of the book, even the parts you don't think you'll use. The concepts or ideas within those sections may in fact be very useful to you in the future.

Get hold of a copy of Fulve's Self Working Mental Magic too, it's really nice little introduction with some really nice ideas in.

Maybe get a hold of some of Wayne Dobson's books - his tricks tend to involve very little sleight of hand at all because of his MS.

I would also recommend Fulve's as a first purchase. 13 Steps is terrific but some can be put off by the writing (which isn't great if you're looking for something to spark your imagination) - Every one of Fulve's effects is a belter and very simple!!!

ok, ive done lots of reading -
alot more is sleight of hand than i imagined!

there are alot of interesting things in there, and i like watching mentalism, and its really let me see how some of the things are done.

the chess part really made me think, playing against multiple opponents, its really clever i think

You might want to have a look at Get Nyman, there are lots of effects on the DVD that are very strong and not too sleighty.
