.. but remember you need your current employer to give you a reference and your new job offer may be 'subject to satifactory references' so best negotiate with your current employer - but do not cause any friction.

Thanks everyone!

For the job that I'm doing, 3 months notice is pretty much standard but the problem is because the job I'm looking at is a step backwards and 3 months is quite a long time.

I'll see how the interview goes I think and take it from there. The company has been very good lately so I don't really want to go upsetting things if I don't have to.

In every job I have had I have given 4-12 weeks notice, and told them I was applying to a direct competitor.

Therfore I usually get 4-12 weeks paid 'garden leave' as they dont want be taking my clients with me!!

I then start my new job the week after, and take my cleints anyway!!

I haven't been refused a reference yet..

As far as I am aware, you have to give notice, you don't have to work it.
