Well what can I say.

Thanks to those who contributed, I’m sorry it went down the pros and cons of Christianity v the Masons  . I live in a city where religion and football used to be a life and death matter unlike any other on ”main” land Brittan so I am well aware of the arguments it can cause.

To those who posted on the original subject thank you.

I only hope that any other posts I submit cause such discussion

Again thanks to all who posted regardless of your beliefs.

Thanks for the thread anyway, I think it's fair to say we don't always get a lot of fire in our discussions but sometimes they just seem to take off! Just so we can catch our breath, can you make to next thread on the topic of emboidery or something equally restful?!

Sounds about right - for the gunfight at the OK Coral!

My favouite Mason was James.
Mine was George.

Err...

Perhaps we should all get back to putting effort into talking about Magic guys... after all, that's what we're here for.

All I can say is after that whole rant my estimations of the main players in that conversation have plumitted. Not because you expressed your individual beliefs, because you have every right to hold those beliefs just as anbody else does.

However, you chose to use this place, a place that is designed to talk about and discuss magic, to express those views and in my opinion that was wrong.

I understand that you wnat to express you're views on this topic because its obviosuly one that you both feel strongly about. Personally, if I were to give in to my temptations, I would love to jump head first into this and tell everybody my views on the subject but this isn't the place for that. We have to remember that. This place is for debates and discussions, not conversations, remember that. If you have to use PM's but even that I personally think is wrong. I suspect any PM's you have sent each other were alot less "diplomatic" tha the posts you made here.

Like I said, my estimations have been lowered and I for one will be much more cautious of certain posts in the future.

Sorry.

All the best,

Will Wood

Actually goldfish, I specifically didn't choose to discuss the subject outside of answering the question. I directly asked NOT TO DISCUSS IT.

Well your entitled to your opinion, though in all my time on boards I've never heard anyone suggest what you can and can't discuss via PM, however making assumptions and then judging the people concerned based on those assumptions is much more common.

Folks, we've had enough hints and suggestions in this respect and you all know it will end up being locked and/or deleted which will upset people even more. Can we now please move on to other topics?

Mandrake I agree but I do think it is only fair to answer Golfish's point.

Actually our discussion via pm was pretty much as diplomatic as it was here and whilst we disagree on the subject we remain friends. One of the things about building a community is its members will have interests and opinions outside of the main subject matter of the forum and from time to time people will disagree and threads will go off topic, that's just human nature. Sometimes those off topic digressions will be of general interest to everyone and may be entertaining to keep going. Other times they are only of interest to the people involved in the discussion and in such cases the gentlemanly thing to do is to take the discussion off the board to pm or email. Rather than continuing into a "flame war" on the boards we had a mature and respectful discussion in private. Whilst this is a subject we both have strong views on we have not allowed that difference of opinion to sour our relationship as friends in magic.

Mark... Unfortunately the damage was done in the open air, in public... and I fear that the transfer of the 'conversation' to PM was a little too late.

BEFORE pressing the 'Submit' button on a post, you should consider that any opinions which you air here are going to forever reflect your views and character to other old, new or prospective members.
