S***i handeling and covering your tracks

Postby Eshly » Jun 27th, '10, 22:14

Generally speaking I haven't been using s***i's lately, not because they arn't good... just because mine broke.

I used to use it in conjunction with an i** pad to get a peek of their word, I then said I then let them "feel" my word, and ofcourse I s***i their word/number on.

Unfortunetly I haven't got loads of pocket space, and often its impractical to carry around an impression pad. Lately however I've been experiancing other worries, that I wish to fix before getting back into using my s***i again.

The main problem is that I am forced to hold the prediction, it cannot be given away. Whereas in almost every other effect I perform, the prediction can be kept by the spectator.

My best idea so far is to hold the paper at my eye level and then "glance" between the paper and the spectators eyes. This gives the idea that I am sending them the message via my eyes somehow; which gives me a good excuse to hold onto the paper.

I did consider windowed envelopes, but currantly we are talking about close-up and walkaround work, not stage.

Does anyone else have any other ideas? :)

P.S
Don't worry Iain, I'm not going all "sceptic phobic" again, but I do think my style can be improved :p

its just a question of time isnt it?

ask them to explain their thought-process as they "read your mind" or whatever premise you are using...that'll give you time to do the necessary...then give them the pad to open and read it...

Its not a question of pads, I'm talking about s***iing here.

I'm trying to find a way to stop spectators thinking "Why is he holding the paper? Why hasn't he given it to me?".

I made On the Mark inspectable and I can do it with this too!

if you re-read what i said, i didnt say it WAS a question of pads..

its a question of timing...its perfectly natural to ask someone about their thought process, how they arrived at the word they did...you're just holding the pad as they speak...you give it to them as soon as you've written whats needed...

and let them continue speaking...

Yes, but that doesn't help me justify why I need to hold onto the prediction I just wrote. In most cases I give it to someone else for safe keeping, such as in On the Mark or a Center Tear effect.

Well anybody with any sense won't perform two prediction effects like you say in the same set so they won't know the norm.

Tom, I have a vague idea that you somewhat admire Derren Brown. Did you see his short performance on Richard and Judy? I believe it is available on YouTube. He makes a prediction and holds on to it. I did not notice anyone complaining.

you write something in pencil, put the pencil down and then ask them to think of something...

have you actually had anyone say "why are you holding that pad while talking to me?"

if so, realise they are not normal... :)

If only there was more self-censoring pre-posting.

Ahhh f**k, I missed the ball there :P

I have seen that video, I believe it has something like 400,000 views now. You may notice that comments can no longer be viewed for the video, that is because I emailed the owner of the video and asked him to disable comments; there were too many people (though not many admittidly) revealing the secret.

If did please me that many however did believe it to be psychological suggestion, and even suggested how he was doing it.

Eshly, Tom, friend, fellow magi, dude! Are you purposely coming up with hurdles to throw in your own way so you can delay getting out there and performing?

Just go out and try it! Nobody is going to question you unless you project the problem in advance.

Look how simple this can be. I'm the mentalist, I'm holding a regular pad face down, swami gimmick ready to go. I find my target, the following ensues.

Me, "Hi, I'm Brian, worlds greatest psychotic phenomenon, sorry I meant psychic phenomenon, what is your name?"

Spectator, "I'm Bill."

Me, shaking hands "Hi, great to meet you, did I mention I can see into your head and I'm the worlds greatest?"

Bill, "Uhm yeah"

Me, "Bill, hold on to this paper a moment for me"

Bill "Sure" takes the paper

Me, "Bill, how does it feel not only standing but being the personal assistant to the worlds greatest psychic entertainer?"

Bill Standing stupidly (sarcasm Tom, Bill is a forensic genious he just doesn't know what to say, but thats okay).

Me, "Bill I will now prove I am the greatest psychic in the world. We have never met but turn that paper over and look at what I wrote 20 minutes before I started performing.

Bill, Bill looks and dies of a heart attack, because right there on the paper is the name 'William", and while he is dying of a heart attack I've got the swami back on my pad because my next prediction is going to be, "Bill Dies of a heart attack during the greatest Psychic show ever.

Forget the heart attack part. Noboby, will care who was holding what, where, or when. They are too busy being entertained and awed by my brilliance. Or at the very least flabergahsted at my inability to spell. But it doesn't stop me from writing, or getting my point across. Get the hint?

Firstly Bmat, yes I think I am subconsciously scared of performing professional. I perform every day for laymen, in pubs, bars, on the street. But the idea of doing anything professionally worries me so much; I can't organise anything.

What if I can't get bookings?
What if I can't tell tickets?
What if people just don't like me?

If any one of these things were to happen to me I'd go into a deep depression for months, and I know you may think I am seeking attention by saying this, but for Manic Depressives that is something we MUST avoid.

Secondly, I'm impressed if you can s***i all that.

Thirdly, read point one again... and please help me. PM me. I've even offered my friend Steve (mentalist who says I need to get off my *rse and do a gig) money to organise a gig for me... but he said no. I'm scared :s

Lawrence I forbid you to reply to this, because this post shows me to be somewhat vulnerable and I don't want you attacking me right now. Another time please.
