At my wits end. (chemistry supplies)

Postby Jean » Jul 2nd, '10, 12:48

I have spent the last week trying to get my hands on certain chemistry supplies, and everywhere I go they either don't have it or won't sell it to the likes of me.

If anyone knows where in the U.K I can get any or all of the following supplies could you let me know.

Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)

Tannic Acid

Alume

Iron Sulphate

Zinc Powder

A Virgins heart

and Goats Blood.

Cheers.

tannic acid.. i think you will find that its a component of tea.
Sodium hydroxide is better known as caustic soda. which is sold as a cleaning agent. Nasty stuff though.
Alum, is used to Pickle food, and you might find it on an old fasioned grocers.
Zinc Powder, is found in many mineral tablets in health food stores
and iron sulphate is a popular ingredient in plant food. You can buy it on Amazon...

the other ingredients im afraid are not that easy. I live in slough, and we've not had no virgings round these parts in years.

I'm not sure about most of you list but I'm pretty sure that for the last two, you have to source them yourself. In my area, the goats blood would be the easiest of the two to find.

Why is everyone so worried about explosives? I don't need fancy chemicals for explosives I can get everything I need from my local Offlicence.

Cheers for the help Dale I'll look into a local health food shop, but as far as I can tell the ingredients have to be pure.

On the Tannic Acid can I make it from tea? If so does anyone know how?

just make a cup of tea. Its Tannic Acid that stains the cup brown
In fact i have an effect that i was given many years ago, that turned tea, into Coffee.
it uses a tiny ammount of a white mineral, ( which i smuggled in from morocco!) that darkens the tannic acid in week tea. :)

I've bought this (as a flame retardant) from an online Indian spice supplies website. It had a different name, with "Alum" in brackets after it. Sorry I can't remember it now...

I'm sure I needn't tell you, but Sodium Hydroxide can blind you really, really easily. It also does nasty stuff to your skin.

Trust me, show that stuff respect.
