Close Up Cases

Postby philipsw » Jul 5th, '10, 20:19

There have been lots of threads over the years about where to get close up cases and folk often favour those nice little aluminium cases that you see.

If you're not fortunate enough to have picked one up which originally contained something else, I finally found some relatively cheap 'smaller' cases available at Play.com (I know larger ones are usually available at B&Q, but these ones seem a bit more portable to my mind...)

BUMP!!!

I needed a case to house and protect microphone gear and saw in B&Q two cases for £22.98 - one case slightly smaller so it fits inside but is ideal for a smaller close up case. Dunno why the description focuses on PVC, the case is definitely aluminium so perhaps it just has a PVC inner? Anyways, well worth the money and if you can find an old ffff....fogey, they can get 10% off for you every Wednesday :D !

The B and Q Two in one cases are great.
I know three magicians plus myself that have these now.
I have the smaller one as my close up case and the larger one as my kids magic case.
I might even have to get another set as I branch out into stage magic.
They don't have separate dividers, and I've left mine as they are, but another magician has added their own home made dividing sections.

Blocks of foam can be found on market stalls quite cheaply but the items I wanted to store arrived in a foam 'tray' with apertures for the various bits and pieces so that went straight into the case as it was and it fitted perfectly. Thick cardboard or thin wood sheets can be used very effectively for dividers - all those hours watching Aunty Val on Blue Peter were not wasted!

I use something similar from Clas Olsen (sp) it's probably a bit big, but its sturdy and smart looking :)
