True-Gossiper's in da house!

Postby True-Gossiper » Jul 8th, '04, 06:49

Hi all. I'm new around. Can't say I'm a professional magician or such, but I've been very much interested in the subject of popular pyschology, brain/mind, hipnotism, and its stuff in magic showbiz.

About myself, I've been into magic since elementary school, but just in the last few months (20 years later!) I have the courage to make little performance with some friends. I'm more into mentalism, since I usually package my illusion with psychology-related patters.

Btw my name is Peter from Jakarta, Indonesia. As a believer in Christ, I sometimes use my magic to teach people about things, especially re-educating the christians on the area of magic. Indonesia is one country that's so populated with witchcraft stories and mystical urban legend. My mission in performing magic is to entertain as well as to debunk those hoaxes in the minds of people. That's why I chose the style of mentalism, combined with a little hypnotism and psychological subtleties; it's a magic ala Derren Brown (tho I never watch this guy, I only recently read about him on the net).

Where do I learn about magic? Mostly on the net. I'd collected piles of them, and practicing them once in a while. So far I haven't produced any routines of my own, but that's something I'm planning to have on the next couple of months. Since it's been always thru the net, I never bought any books. Another reason is because I really don't have money to buy it (Indonesia is a very poor country, but I think you still won't believe me after all, that's okay). Internet has and will always been my ultimate source for magic learning.

But recently somebody lend me a book of my idol, James Randi, the Flim Flam. And then another book, Hoaxes. I also have Indonesian-translated Mind Games by Andre Kole. And finally another friend lent me The Books of Wonder by Tommy Wonder. Tho, those books are superb, but the real deal that help me in learning magic is on the net articles.

I hope I have described about myself pretty much here. Really looking forward for more adventures here. And maybe someone can help me finding a network of Indonesian magician, or other resources. Thanks a lot.

Mentally yours,
TG
