Paranormal Activity 2: Electric Boogaloo

So they've been working on a sequel to the first film. I saw the first film and it was pretty good but not THAT scary. Maybe because I didn't see it in theaters but I did understand the fear and everything. Now in the trailers for sequel it looks like they are just going to the hollywood route and make the ghost or demon.. Be some cliched figure. And not something we never see. Which was what was the main scare factor of the first film. We never saw what exactly was haunting them. Just heard what it was doing.

Now in the 2nd there is some hooded figure that appears to be a ghost haunting a different family. It just looks so cliched and non scary. They might has well have the film be completely cliched. Have the walls bleed, voices appear saying "GEEEETTTT OOOUUUUTTTT!" and all sorts of overy cliched ghost movie things.

Or a ouija board go on fire...

I assumed the hooded figure was the girl from the first film to be honest.

Also, weird baby, huh?

Trailer looked okay to me. yes, I'd say the figure in the doorway was the girl from the first film - should be anyway. Hopefully they will have learned a thing or two from Japanese horror. Let's hope it's not "I Know What You Did Last Time You Used A Ouija Board" style slasher. What made the original stand out was its use of old school horror techniques, IE less is more rather than having some idiot in a mask running around killing people with a kitchen knife.

What I never understand about slasher movies is why nobody just picks up a lump of wood and tw*ts the bad guy over the head.

The first film was so amazing*
Lets hope the sequal is as good as the Blair Witch sequal!

*ly bad I had to watch it in stages due to massive bordem but a commitment to watching it so I can actually know what I'm arguing about.

Won't lie, I was also kind of bored watching it. I love horror films, but...not too sure why, this one didn't quite do it for me.

I want another movie like The Orphanage (El Orfanato).

Well supposedly the couple from the first are going to appear in the sequel, so the hooded figure could be her. Or it could be something else and they could simply appear in old news footage of the event or flashbacks.

I will say that the Ouija board lighting itself on fire was kind of silly.

Sadly money is the motivating factor when it comes to making sequels to movies that don't need sequels. Donnie Darko 2 anyone?

I found the first movie quite atmospheric, but more than any kind of genuine 'Can't see what was so scary' or even some macho posturing 'Im not frightened, me', i think the first film - just like Blair Witch - was simply a triumph for independent film making.

The trouble with the first film was that it had so much 'Like, OMG, you're like, gonna be, like, soooo scared n that', about it that it could never live up to your expectations. Also, it was pitched as a horror film and those that like extreme horror were always going to be disappointed.

Original budget $15,000, it went on to make over $190 MILLION. If you can't tip your hat to that i don't know what i can do for you.

I'm sure it'll probably go the same way as Saw. I loved the first Saw movie, but now they're churning them out like breakfast cereals.

It most likely cost a bit more than 15k. They had to pay for advertising cost and all sorts of other marketing things.

I didn't really think it was THAT scary. Not like the audience in the trailers were everybody was just peeing themselves and trembling like a leaf. Granted, I didn't see it in movie theaters. But I did see it late one night, when I had the house to myself.

I haven't seen the Blair Witch project though. I have seen the fake documentary on it how the people who filmed it "Died" and all the fake myths or whatever on it. Which was good, up until you realized that the people who "died" or went missing. We're alive and well, and lecturing at colleges.

Me and my girlfriend went to watch it in the cinema, thinking it would actually be a good horror.
She loves horrors, but seems to hide everytime something scary happens, even if it is not that scary. But in this, she jumped a few times, but was not scared at all.
Me, I tend to laugh my way through horrors, see the lighter/funnier side of things. But I was bored crapless through this. Even tempted to walk out half way through, if it wasn't for my girlfriend I may have.

I doubt I will see the second one, maybe if it was on tv in a years time and I happened to be flicking through.

A friend of my girlfriend wanted to pick it up when it came out on dvd. I told them, give me a camera, and twenty minutes and i'll re-create it for them at barely the price of the dvd.

I've never yet seen the Blair Witch Project, but have recently picked up the DVD at my favourite secondhand DVD/games shop. Now I just have to find a time to watch it, as Col hates horror movies and won't be very happy to waste an evening with it on. Will probably end up watching it some afternoon when he's asleep.

To be honest, I don't think I've ever been actually frightened by any movie (startles and gross-outs don't count as fright). Nor any game either -- except for Dementium on the Nintendo DS, which I had to put down a couple of times because it got too intense. Great game. Looking forward to getting hold of the sequel.

You'll love Dementium II. Better than the first! Have you tried Resident Evil 4? That game freaked me out.

In The Mouth of Madness is also scary, but then I generally get spooked or freaked out when I see scenes of people bending in ways the human body shouldn't be capable of doing.

Never saw The Exorcist. I was too young when it first came out. It's one of those films that I'd like to watch some time, just because it's considered a modern classic and I ought to be exposed to it. But haven't got round to it yet. I'm not really much of a film buff.

My number one favourite movie, for utterly unknown reasons, is The Andromeda Strain. I estimate I've seen it 30 or 40 times, maybe more, not counting the number of times I've read the book (probably between 12 and 25). It's sort of a ritual -- not even about enjoyment any more, more like addiction. Watched it again just the other afternoon.

I saw the Exorcist as a 15 year old skinhead and slept with the light on for two weeks. Honestly. Two blinkin' weeks.

In occult circles it is often cited as a cursed film. The folklore is that something evil was captured in the filming process. But that would be just silly...
