What trick is this please?

Postby magicj » Jul 19th, '10, 08:54

Hiya Folks,

I saw a guy perform a card trick. on the side of the whole deck was lots of black scribbles and marks (Black Pen / sharpie or something)

He then had the Spec select a card. replace it to the deck. did a series of cuts, shuffle and some unnecessary flourish and put the cards in order so the black ink turned into writing stating the Spec's card.

Cant find it anywhere and it's bugging me.

any help is always greatly appreciated.

it could be "reset"
or "unshuffled".( Paul Gertner)

several magicians have their own versions of this. they all rely on perfect, or at least almost perfect Faro Shuffles.

Have a little think about it, I wouldn't have thought that this would be all that difficult to figure out...

there is one ive seen some time over te last 12 months that uses less shuffles. But a cant remember whos lecture it was at.

its remotely possible it was John Carey, but I am probably wrong.

Be warned, the problem with 'unshuffled' in its original form is that for a layperson, the effect is long and boring. For a magician it is impressive. I have seem a magician start the effect where they are only two shuffles or so away from the reveal, which does shorten the effect.

Instead of taking time to figure out how to do it without the Faro, why not learn the Faro, even a noob like you can do it.
