Sunday Night BBC1 - Sherlock

Postby Klangster1971 » Jul 20th, '10, 11:13

Anyone else excited by this?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t4pgh

An update of Sherlock Holmes co-created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss - not a bad pairing, eh?

Unfortunately, I'm working in the U.S. next week but wife is under strict orders to make sure it's recorded!!

Looks promising.

I've just finished working my way through the DVD set of all the Jeremy Brett episodes...

I am rather excited about this. I love watching benedict cumberbatch, and enjoy Stephen Moffats writings...

Lets hope the spirit of Holmes is still there. That is the most important thing.

I've just realised something. I love the Brett Sherlock Holmes, but hate the 40s contemporised Holmes films. I see now that it's not that they're contemporised, but because they're set in the 40s!

exactly. Though some of the Rathbone movies had charm.
The Sherlock beats the Nazi stuff was awful.

I wasn't too impressed with the story but I can see the main point was to establish the characters as different to any previous incarnations. The principle actors make a good team and bode well for the remaining two programmes - possibly leading to a longer series sometime next year?

I enjoyed it, but if Doctor who returns, I don't see it having a spot on the BBC drama line up.

I absolutly loved it... only the business with the Nicoteen patches struck me as daft. But presumably there is more to them than meets the eye.

I do have to admit that i had worked out who the murderer was about half way through though. But that may be down to it being based on Study in Scarlet.
Either that Or my brains are tuned into the same things as Stephen Moffat.
( but not Holmes... he just jumped to conclusions and missed the blindingly obvious)

At one point Phil Davies reminded me of Norman Lovett as Holly in that episode of Red Dwarf where he's 'demoted' to night watchman. Then the really warped persona emerged and it was indeed one of the most sinister perfomances I've seen for ages on TV.

When i watched it, i was reminded of Randal and Hopkirk. Not the remake, the original series. I couldnt quite put my finger on exactly why though.

Surprise surprise, in this mornings Metro, the reviewer said exactly the same thing. :)
I liked teh clues being flashed up.. It made it feel like a game, and that you could see what Holmes saw.. and in turn, you could deduct along with him...

Presumably 221 baker street is the shop. but where is 221A?

Does Mrs H live in 221a? if so, why have only 221b on the front door?

they never get that right.

i reckon, via gatiss - i wouldnt be surprised if nyman/brown had some low key input...showing the internal process visually in some way...
