Uk Supplier of Cups....no not C.U.P.S

Postby greedoniz » Jul 20th, '10, 14:24

Hello

I am looking for someone in the Uk that sells busking style Cups akin to the Gary animal or Paul Fox street cups type affair.

I have been in contact with Gary Animal who has moved back to the uk but his workshop wont be up and running for around 3 months.

It seems that all the Uk magic suppliers only sell light weight cups. I currently own some brass cups bought from a magic shop but I found when performing busking style then tend to tip over all over the place when pulling your table back....very annoying....just wont do.

So you are saying what you really need is a big magnetic table so that your current cups will stay upright.

:P :D

what you need is a set of old cups. They tend to pop up on ebay from time to time.

The problem with getting a set of old cups from ebay is one of both time and not knowing whether they would be suitable for the function I need from them just by looking at a photo and description (unless they are named).
Because of the routine I have they need to take a tennis ball as a final load and be heavy/sturdy so they dont fall over everytime I move the table

I certainly dont want to end up having to buy several times to find the right set and either having to sell on or stack the house with stuff I dont use.

I find it odd that there seems to be no Uk seller of heavy duty Cups for cups and balls

Are they heavy, stable when you move the table they are on (mouth up and stacked) and for sale?

yes, they are heavy, yes they are stable.. nope their not for sale

The tennis balls i use however, are..... In pet shops.

they sell some nice, very realistic spongy tennis balls for dogs.
Only a couple of quid each. :)

now because they are lighter, you may find that it solves the ballance issues with your existing cups.

The balance issue occurs when the cups are stacked mouth up, on the table before the routine starts.
You move the table back and the cups fall over and off.

Does anybody know of any Uk supplier of Busker style Cups for a cups and balls routine such as the Gary animal or Paul fox street cups?

Wouldn't it be better to buy the stainless steel "cups" that are sold for use in the catering industry? Just go to a catering supplies shop or kitchenware type place and pick out three of the size that is best for you.

Why do you need to move the table?

I have bought and had delivered some decent cups from the states.

As to moving the table back it is to help build a bigger crowd during street performing. Apparently as the crowd builds you move the table back, this in turn means more can see you and in turn the bigger your hats are.
With the small bit of experience I have garnered so far this is definitely the case

Internationals stock a few different types of cups.
What i would sugest though, is that if possible you handle them, rather than buy straight off line.
the shape and weight on cups is so personal.
