"Doctor, can you sonic me?"

Postby Eshly » Aug 23rd, '10, 00:27

I've been told I'm being bought a £200 Matt Smith Sonic Screwdriver for my birthday, and I want it to be "working" in someway.

My plan is to put a PK device in it, so that when pointed and held at a computer screen or such an object, it deliberately interferes with the screen/object.

What PK object would be best suitable, and is it possible to make something HIGHLY magnetic that wasn't before? I know its possible on a small scale, not sure if it would be strong enough though.

I'm not even going to begin to describe what would happen to you if you came to my house and started messing with my telly

Yeah good luck trying not to get your ass kicked for ruining their TV's and monitors. "Oh, it was for a magic effect."

Agreed. Do not point magnets (especially neo magnets) at a screen. They contain electromagnets which keeps the screen shape. Putting a magnet near this will pull said magnets, and distort the screen. Potentially permanently destroying the TV/monitor.

Like the others said - don't do it

(That's if it even works. It won't happen on modern screens, so you'll just look like an idiot)

:!: :!: :!: NO. :!: :!: :!: *

*(See Physics book for details)

However, on the more constructive side of things...
Of course I wouldn't know about these things, but I certainly did not one time go to a 'Gadget/ Prankshop/ Weird consortium of amusing, silly and pointless novelties...' shop, which tend to be populated with disproportionate amounts of middle aged men having a mid-life crisis and groups of teens having hysterics and staring at all the cool things in there. And of course, when I wasn't there, I didn't buy a strange remote thing with a friend which claimed to switch off tvs remotley, for about a fiver. And when I didn't do that, we certainly did not go to people's houses and switch off their tvs whilst they were watching it. And we certainly did not turn off the tvs in the windows of other shops. For additional information, it certainly didn't take a while for the tv to respond after you press the button.

But of course I know nothing of mischeif. Although this imaginary scenario does remind me of something Canasta used to do.

Why would you start dismantling a £200 gift? Shows gratitude that does!
Though I suppose you could save up for the replacement in a week ey?

You would be best off buying a cheapo one from Toys R Us or something and sticking a neo in it.

doing this will upset the people who buy you this gift.

since when did dr.who go round making a telly go a bit funny?

no matter what you do, people wont believe you..so just use i.t. or a pk device with a wrist or ankle strap..

200 quid repro props like this, shouldnt be touched. you keep it in it's box, mint condition, and in a few years you sell it on.

If you want to use a sonic, do as sugested above and get the cheaper one and gaff that up. :)

Like Sam says, you'd be better off bastardizing it with one of these. It even has a light, for extra sonic screwdrivery.

Besides rumour has it, they may change the thing next series..( to get ready for Rivers Demise) so your screwdriver might not be the one the doctor uses.

'zackly. Last Christmas I finally received an ultra violet sonic screwdriver as used by C.Eccleston and D.Tennant only to find that M.Smith was using a green one. Red or blue sems to be the likely new colours....
