I use bridge size cards, because some sleights are slightly harder with poker size as I have small hands. :)

Yes. They, along with the Pinochle, are all series 808. The bridge size is series 86.

Oh, and I nearly died laughing when I unexpectedly saw "404" on the mini deck.

Standard size and poker size are exactly the same size. The only difference between the two with Bicycle decks is the box design

I suggest that the bridge size is more common in England; that's what you'll get if you buy your cards in WH Smith (which is where I get mine - I use their own brand). I wouldn't go so far as to say that using poker cards here screams "magician" but I prefer to use "ordinary" cards.

Talking about ”standard size“ vs. Poker size is like asking: ”How long is a piece of string?“
It depends on where in the world you are. You should compare Poker vs. Bridge sizes.

BUT! If you buy only bridge size cards and practice with that size only, you will have huge problems if you decide to buy a gimmicked deck or buy some gimmicked cards to put in your deck. 99.9% of them are only made in Poker size. Also, if someone hands you a deck of Poker size cards and you have only practiced with Bridge size, you might not be able to do your sleight of hand (if you have practiced some). But if you practice with Poker size cards, you can handle Bridge size cards without any problems.

Talking about small hands not being able to handle Poker size cards, it's a myth. Have you seen Wayne Dobsons' tiny hands?

I have seen a 10 year old kid doing sleight of hands, including side steal and palming, with a borrowed Poker size deck, at International Magic Conference. The only reason I saw what he was doing is that I was behind him. The guy he was showing it to didn't notice his sleights.

I guess in a sense, having smaller hands is a benefit. I have hands like shovels so people imagine I could be palming a card. If your hands appear too small, then they will dismiss the idea, or it simply won't occur to them in the first place. I'll put money on that helping the above-mentione ten-year-old get away with it.

then the only thing left is the method.

red poker for pro's

Postby TonyoMagic » Oct 11th, '10, 14:57

if you're just starting out then i can see why you'd go for a bridge size deck, bit easier for some sleights.

but in the end you have to use poker size. you'll meet other magicians, you might be jamming with other ppl, you might just have a deck tossed at you - 'show me some magic!'...and 9 times out of 10 it'll be a poker deck - it's just The Standard. On a slightly diff take, the bigger deck makes for bigger visual impact, it may sound marginal, but i say every detail counts.

you might start off with blue colour as it hides in the shadows more and is a little more forgiving of bad handling. But once you've got your game together - red is in only way - bright visual impact.
