Review

I've got a few books on the subject of palm reading at home, most of them aimed at the New Age market and I can honestly say that this little gem of Paul's is up there with the best of them.

The book's aimed at magicans who want to incorporate palm reading in their performances. More often then not most material of this type, talking about magicians using palm or tarot reading just encourages the use of cold reading and will usually even state that there's no need to learn the real meanings of the palm lines, cards or whatever the system is based on. Coming from a background of tarot reading, this always leaves me cringing. Thankfully, Paul's book does nothing of the sort. It offers very clear and easy to follow ten point system to reading palms.

Paul talks about how, as a magician or mentalist, you can make palm reading a part of your performance. Throughout the book, he shares his experiences, wisdom and very sensibly, a few words of caution that it's vital that anyone performing a reading of any sort takes on board.

A very good book for anyone looking to get starting with palm reading, magician or not.

Overall 10\10

Thanks for the kind review Rebecca, much appreciated and glad you enjoyed it. May I just quickly say that if people out there haven't already bought Rebecca's Soothsayer's Envelope book, then they should do so immediately. Some great ideas that have reintroduced me to the world of envelope work.

Mandrake - order on it's way to you in 2 minutes! Thanks! :D

I completely agree with Lady of Mystery which of course is a matter of historical significance. You really don't need too much of that cold reading guff if you learn how to read palms properly and know the actual meanings of the lines so Paul's approach is actually the correct one.

But wait! It occurs to me as I write that I may actually have on my computer my lecture notes on palmistry that I gave out at my London lectures. These lectures were naturally a stunning success.

Mandrake was there and he has just now purchased Paul's book. It seems he is going to become a psychic in his retirement by the sound of it.

Anyway let me see if I can find my lecture notes on this. One moment please.

Here you are:

CRASH COURSE IN PALMISTRY

The right hand represents what is going on around you now. The left hand represents the past and inherited characteristics. If you are left handed though the reverse applies.
Few lines on hand means a practical and down to earth person. Perhaps even a little sceptical.
Many lines on hand means a sensitive person who may even be a little bit psychic. Very creative. May tend to worry too much.

Short fingers means impatience and a dislike for beating about the bush. Long fingers denote an eye for detail and ability to get down to the nitty gritty.

Your head line represents your brain and how you use it. A Short head line means you can easily be underestimated. And you can underestimate yourself too. You don’t give yourself enough credit for your own ability.
A long head line indicates great intelligence especially if it is well defined. If the head line slopes deeply on to the mount of luna (see a palmistry book to find out where that is) it means that you have strong imagination. If the head line dips and slopes too deeply it means you get depressed at times.

The Heart Line represents love. If the line goes straight across it means you bottle up your feelings and you need space on your own. If the line curves towards your index finger (finger of Jupiter) that shows a good strong, ongoing relationship. If the line shows jaggedness that shows path of true love not always running smoothly.

If the head and life line are joined at the beginning it means you are cautious. If there is a gap it means you are impulsive.

The life line shows health. It does not show when you are going to die as the old myth goes. If the line is strong it does denote long life and good health. If it is weak you need to take care of yourself more. The length of the line is not important. It is the depth and how strong it looks that matters. However if the length of the line is long and it also appears strong you can certainly tell the client that they are quite likely to have longer than the average life span.
If there is a break in the lifeline it can denote a health problem in the past. Never say the future otherwise you will scare the client and it doesn't mean that anyway.

The fate line sometimes known as the line of destiny goes up the middle of the hand. If it is long and well defined it means you know where you are going and will probably get there. It shows success in career. If the line is short it means you haven’t quite decided what you want to do in life. If it is very close to your life line it means that you can easily be influenced by people. If it is far apart it means you are very independent.

I get a psychic vibe you are all looking at your hands now, even the bloody sceptics.

Psychic vibe be blowed - you saw us all doing exactly that last week!

Paul's work compliments the lecture last week very nicely and it's good to have more info on this topic from another performer who uses the techniques in real life. As for a career in retirement... I shall pass this way but once, please form a queue here for your readings and have your money ready, I can hear the chink of silver, I'd prefer to hear the rustle of paper....

thanks for writing the review Rebecca. I have the book to review, but ive had other things to sort out over the last few days..

I can only agree with every word said above, like all of Paul's books, this one sits well with the others, and will give the reader enough information to begin reading palms. Possibly the ultimate impromptu thing you can do.
in their hands, in their heads, and gimmick free. what more could you ask for?

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I've never been into tarot, runes, astronomy, or any other form of reading, not have I ever had any sort of interest in hosting a seance, past life regression, etc, but for some reason have always held a soft spot for palm reading. I don't know why, maybe I just like having my hand touched.

In short, this is an absolutely brilliant book. It gives you confidence from the start that you will be able to accomplish a palm reading easily, without looking like a fool. This is something that I can actually see myself working on and bringing into my paid performing repotoire - if only for the increased bookings I can definitely see myself getting when I become competent!

I just spotted this (I don't normally read reviews) and I just want to add my voice to the consensus. This is a very valuable publication. Apart from Juilan Moore's speed learning palmistry method, this has to be the simplest introduction to the whole art. You can pick this up, study for the evening, and be doing readings tomorrow. What more do you need?

Can you do stand alone readings with this system without incorporating it into your magic?

Yes it is teaching you to palm read. It has a little bit on combining it with a trick, but it is mainly concentrating on teaching you a system.
