hi guys. what should I learn?

Postby lucid » Oct 15th, '10, 15:23

I preform some nice classic impromptu tricks, but I get a little tired of them, so I'm looking for some new routines to learn.
Have any ideas?
So far I nailed 2 card montee, biddle trick, sandwich, duble transfer, single transfer and ambitious.
Iwm sure there are a lot of other classic impromptu tricks I don't know.
thanks.

Buy The Royal Road to Card Magic. That has the basic slights for cards and a lot of classic effects, as well as giving you a start in creating your own effects. And around 95% of it is impromptu and can be performed with a borrowed deck.

It's what started me, and I'm sure quite a few others, into card conjuring.

Hope that helps.

Hi Lucid,

The usual thing is for new members to post an introduction in the curiously named "Introduction" section so that we have some idea about who you are what level you are at etc etc.

You will find this to be a very friendly site and if you are genuinely trying to progress your magic you will get plenty of tips and help here.

Remember, we do not reveal methods or how any trick is done but tips and support abound and the review sections will help you not to spend money you can't afford on tricks you didn't really want.

This is so easy to do, believe me I know!

The two books by Nick Einhorn are great, as a good background in magic.

Huge books, lots of clear photos, and hundred of tricks - of course, some are just for your own knowledge, others you will do. Some are in my working repetoire.

They are both on Amazon (or at least thats where I got them from).

hi MR. wizz

I really didn't mean to come across as rude by not introducing myself.
Trust me, that will shortly be corrected.
Anyway- I'm not looking for the secrets ot techniqus, but only the names of good impromptu tricks (preferably with a great climax) to learn.
thanks again.

What books are you learning them from? It is better for you to find tricks that suite you style, than to just learn ones other people suggest, isn't it?

Do tell me if I'm talking rubbish, by the way.

All effects have a good climax. It is the performer that is poor because it is not the effect itself, it is the presentation of the effect.

Try Mark Wilson's Course In Magic.

If you are getting bored then perhaps its time to branch out from the card tricks and do magic with other everyday objects, or are you just interested in card magic? It'll help to narrow down what kind of thing you are looking for.

Seconded.

You could spend a lifetime trying to master the techniques in this book and still not learn them all.

Move away from cards. That would be a good start. Try Mark Wilson's book. It will bring you a long way. And buy a TT and learn to use it.

I got Mark Wilson's Complete Course as one of my first books and I absolutely love it still.

Not only is it an easy way to learn a wide variety of effects but I just love the look of the book... so much in one big fully illustrated hardback. It's like a big tomb of magic and it makes me feel warm inside! :)

And there's just so much really useable material in there. I've just plucked a couple of ideas out of it, which despite going over that book about a million times hadn't spotted before for a new act that I'm putting together.
