Multiplying Bubbles

Postby Webhed » Oct 16th, '10, 05:07

As anyone here had any experience with Multiplying Bubbles? I would like to add them to a routine that I'm planning, but I want to get a good quality set.

There are three sets below, but I'm a bit suspicious about the low price...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I so wish I could have found a set that low in cost 30 years ago...

I got my set through Irelands/Magic Inc. in Chicago when I was about 15 but the two most popular performances of the bubbles would be Doug Henning in one of his earlier specials and Vito Lupo sometime in the late 70's/early 80's... he did an awesome mime clown act in which the bubbles played a featured role.

I would check to see if the Fakini Company is making these in that they make some of the best manipulation balls on the market. They might cost a bit more than some, but they really can't be beat when it comes to handling.

Another suggestion I would make is to learn how to work with real bubbles, what some call "Super Bubbles" (because they don't burst easily and have a longer life span once created).

These Super Bubbles will allow you to do a kind of juggling bit of business with them, including some very cool IT controls. All of which lends itself well to a short contact juggling style sequence as well as a floating ball type act using a large clear "bubble"

Wish I could be of greater assistance but hopefully this helps you on the creative and research side of things.

Dirk Losander does a great routine with bubbles and IT loops- he also sells his own 'special brew' bubble solution!

Not read it, but this site may give you some info on making your own "super bubbles" :D

Out of those three the last link is the better "quality" but it depends on what kind of thing you are doing. I use the Vernet set and these are fine for my purpose as the audience are not close enough to my performance to get a close look at them. It's a simple production routine, not too much fancy business as it leads on to other things. If you are wanting to make the piece mainly about what you are doing whilst producing these bubbles, then the silicone set will probably serve you better as it will allow you more options with increased ease.

I've heard rumours that Iain does a multiplying bubbles trick in the bath...

The multiplying soap bubble trick was really popular years ago but then sets in those days were made of glass and always broke easily. Not good if you're practicing.

Also I recount that at a Magic Hands convention, just after I moved back to Germany a while ago, that a performer did the trick but you could not see what he was doing because they did not show up on a stage.
