History of magic tricks

Postby magicollie » Oct 19th, '10, 17:48

Hi Guys,

I have set up a blog to try and credit the right magicians as it seems people who produce DVD's don't seem to know who created certain moves and tricks. I think it would be good to have a database of the tricks and moves crediting the right magicians and a video next to them so the magician can see what the move looks like.

I just set this up today and I was wondering what you guys though. It would only be able to be accessed by magicians.

Thanks.

This is great but I was thinking more along the lines of sleights instead of tricks. It would be both and a sort of wikipedia for magicians.

Surely that would just read as a list of

Dai Vernon, Dai Vernon, Dai Vernon, Larry Jennings, Larry Jennings, Larry Jennings, Juan Tamariz etc...?

Good idea, but would take far too much time. Would also be so many arguments about who came up with what, variations and the such.

Good luck to you though :p

you will hardly ever get a diffinitive name for the creator for each sleight.

Moves are re invented every day, and renamed constantly.

the problem is, the difference between one slight and another, is often a tiny one, that is bought about because the performers hands naturaly shape themselves to a slightly different handling.

most of the classic moves can be put down to a handfull of people. Vernon, Marlo, Ramsay, Goshman, ect.

Modern moves can be atributed to Wiliamson, Ammar, ect.

there are many modern moves, which should not be looked upon as sleightsi.m.h.o , because you need to have both hands in play to place it there, and angles are too sensitive for a live performance.

those who know that That was the original Name Alex gave to it, and the effect that spawned it. I have the original effect in part of my collection, and in truth, it doesnt use the count as we know it. I love the thing. I got it in a mixed lot off ebay. It took me ages to track down a copy of the original instructions, but did.
Its a super reveal of a chosen card.

I must admit to calling it the Ghost Count, but mainly to show off.

If the spectator doesn't engage in the effect,
then the only thing left is the method.

It's called the 'Wikipedia of Magic', couldn't you just set up a wiki?

Would be much easier to edit!

I could help set up if you'd be interested. Admining would be up to you though!.

Its just that it would be easier to expand this and have more control on it if its a blog. Thank you very much for your offer but at this time I'm just looking for people to spread the word and contribute there knowledge.
