Apparently it could be a woman testing her hearing aid. Not as mad as it sounds. There was a hearing aid in the 1920's that at a distance resembles a modern mobile phone.

She could easily be trying to cover her face because she didn't want to be on film. Also could be fooling with her hearing aid.

Though if she is a time traveler, I'd say it's a pretty clever move to make yourself an extra or background in a random film at the time. It won't end up screwing up the Time Space Continuum, because at the time you're not calling attention to yourself.

Me, Personally, I'd do the same thing. Though I'd simply moon the camera and do it in a bunch of different films at the time. Therefor causing some conspiracy nerd to freak out over seeing my *rse in the background of different movies, and then he or she'd try continue to watch the grainy black/white footage of it. Back and to the left, back and to the left.

It would, the fact that we can watch the scene on dvd would suggest that it actually did (providing it were in fact a time traveller) :)
Thats quite an interesting clip, I love little puzzles like this. There was a guy I read about on the net, cant remember his name now (the site mentioned that his book was either released, or to be released) who claimed to be a part of a government programme on time travel. He claimed that as a kid, he (and a few others) were 'teleported' to diffirent times, including the future, to view and record certain things. While the story was interesting I did notice some discrepencies, and the notion of paradoxes seemed to be abandoned in the text i read. :)

If this is in fact a time traveler, than this is the future, near or distant. Why, in the future, would a cellphone be bulkier than it is now and who would she have to talk to? It's not like there are cellphone towers.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
    Pete: Holy Bible?
    Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

For me the best argument for time travel is this book.

They're all going to come along in a bit and tell you it's all a coincidence. But I'm not. I know. I was there.

I once had a theory that most Psychics were simply time travelers who had their minds "erased" of future events, and the visions they tend to get are just bits and pieces of their memories falling into place like a puzzle. Thus with them not being fully aware of the future, they can't alter it.

Now granted, at the time I had this theory I was 15.

    You beat me to it!
I was just recently considering posting about this here.

Turns out it was an extra on a DVD for the movie. So for now I guess we don't know if this footage was really around that long ago, as it seems it just appeared as an extra on the DVD.

Another theory says it was a hearing aid. (There was one back then that looked like that.)

So with those two ideas, it seems likely that it wasn't a cell phone.

I love this, so it was just those pieces of information that make you say that? lol. Not the date of the film, etc?

That's a bit far fetched don't you think?

She's can time travel and out of all the things she could have done she went to see Charlie Chaplin, she's obviously a retro fan.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

I reckon she's an American FBI agent from the future in deep cover. In fact, it's not a lady, it's a man. And look at those feet. Them's FBI feet if ever I saw them.
