Postby lukeclough » Oct 31st, '10, 17:10

I'm looking into learning a good torn and restored card trick.... I've got torn 2 pieces but would like to learn the best routine with a normal signed card..... who would you guys recommend?

Hi mate,

Prob the best and most visual is D Garcia's - Torn.

Personally as you know, I love Torn 2 Pieces (because it not a card trick)

But Daniel Garcia's is the best one I have seen, and one of the easiest to do. And I have explored many TnR's.

Guy Hollingworth's - The Reformation.
wowza! :o

It's difficult but it's really visual - search for a video on youtube and you'll see - I like it.

The Reformation is great, but not easy as stated.

Having used both the reformation and Torn in the past, I would always vote for Torn. To an audience they are both the exact same thing, but to us as performers, Torn is not only easier to perform, it's easier to keep on performing. To give you an idea, 26 performnces of Torn will set you back 1.99 worth of investment, Reformation could set you back about 6.50 depending on where you source materials.

Isn't there another torn and restored card that came out awhile back that was meant for strolling magic.

While I like the idea of the Torn and Restored card, I don't quite get the context of it, and also when you hand it out. I'd think to most people it looks just like a playing card. As with Torn 2 Pieces, you have a miracle on your hands, because you did it with something that they wouldn't expect to see and because at the end of the day, they have this unusual looking photograph to always remind them of what had happened.

Yves Doumerge (sic) has one that is almost identical to Garcia's Torn, so if you can get one cheaper than the other, make a judgement call.

Brent Brauns Torched And Restored is also a nice easy version, practically sleight free.

I do love Torn though. I wouldn't say it's as easy as others on here have mentioned ( and I don;t know The Reformation so I cannot compare) but it is certainly a good sleight based handling.

Thanks Lee.

I meant that I don't know how to perform the Reformation so don't know how it compares in difficulty, although it seems that it is pretty hard to do.

What does it offer over Torn that would make it worth learning?

I'm going to repeat myself and state the obvious. Most, if not all the versions of torn and restored card are good. I use the one in Mark Wilson of all places. It is you that must perform it the best. You can watch 20 different versions without realizing that 28 of them are the same or conversly that 28 of them are different. What the spectator sees is that they sign a card, the card is then torn and then restored. It doesn't matter the method, because that is what they see. So it comes down too what method works for you? Which one would you like to perform? Shawn Farquhar just released his signature torn and restored, (although he does it with a photograph). And it is a thing of beauty. You can watch it on youtube when he performes for Ellen Degenerous, or however you spell her name. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao3ovnJetmU

I have been using Shawns since it came out, it is my favourite version to date.

Here is a quick clip of myself playing around with it, that was in another thread.

Its easy and gets a great reaction.

The beauty of Torn and the Reformation is it is a visual piece by piece restoration, not a flash restoration. Flash restorations are unexpected happenings of which you get to see the result after the magic takes place, which you may have missed.
The piece by piece you get to watch each little moment of magic actually take place, and you know it's coming so you know not to blink etc. As a spectator you are fully immersed in the experience.
