Magic 4 hooligans?

Postby circuskevin » Nov 3rd, '10, 11:32

Anyone ever taught their local hooligans any magic?

Here in Selly Oak we have the worlds most talented hooligans. Not only can they steal cars, shoplift, burgle etc, they can also juggle, ride a unicycle, ride a giraffe unicycle and ride a reverse steer bike like an ordinary bike. Some can happily ride the giraffe unicycle backwards the length of the street. (one did it with a tag on his ankle for assault)

I wonder if I could tempt them into learning any magic? Anyone ever done it?

I have done workshops and people skills lectures using magic for the Behaviorally Challenged students at Collages and Uni's.

Believe it or not once you get their attention they are one of the best and easiest groups to teach.

(easier than lecturing magicians  )

Suggested tricks:

Knife Through Teenager.
The Amazing Disappearing Mobile Phone.
Lock them up in handcuffs and invite them to escape.
Cut And Restored Credit Card. Then return the card to the person they nicked it from.

I'd say teach them to pickpocket and become the ringleader of a merry band of cockney street urchins. Of course you'll also have to teach them to sing.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

Right now if anyone ever tries to mug me. I hope it is this guy.

With regards to teaching urchins magic didn't Fagin do something similar?

I don't suggest teaching them the topit or your local supermarket will hate you. :)

Lo and behold I get a knock at the door this afternoon. One of the local hooligans after a reference for a job. In fact he's got 2 interviews tomorrow. Haven't seen much of him the last year or two. He's been trying out the drugs scene.

Bit of a surprise to find him so enthusiastic about getting a job. Mind you the local drug dealer's mum's boyfriend/toyboy hung himself a few weeks ago. That gave him a bit of a shock.

I'm very happy to give him a reference. "Don't mention the drugs" he then says to me.

As well as the reference he suddenly starts talking about David Blaine and how great he is or something like that. I definitely need to exploit the magic angle with hooligans one of these days. I'm more of a dabbler in magic although I use it in my work all the time.

As an example of skill he's borrowed my reverse steer bike to ride home on occasion - incredible!
