Push a full glass of beer through a window.. !

Postby Miniolo » Nov 25th, '10, 13:55

Hi there me and a friend thats into magic too have a pub where we hang and most of the time talk about magic or perform magic..

because we are at the same pub the same time we can perform effects that look impossible like a signed card gets behind a glass window...

we had an idea to get a glass full of beer to go from the one side to the other side of the window.. with one of us standing on one side and the other at the other side...

so the one at the bar will have to make it vanish and the other make it apear... but because its a glass with an open top and full with beer... it sort of makes it hard to manipulate... if u get what i mean

does any one have ideas?

you would have to make the window up, in the usual manner. ( dove through glass, man through glass ect)

there used to be an effect in which a full glass of milk was placed behind a wooden screen.
another screen is placed on another table... the first screen is colapsed, and the second is lifted up.. showing that the glass was now there.
It is not suitable for close up, and you cant use any glass.

but it was effective.

Does it have to be beer? You can buy some pretty convincingfake brandy glasses that look full but don't spill.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

To start with the obvious solution, a duplicate glass of beer outside the window could be a method. But then that's not much of a trick as most glasses of beer in a pub look similar (That's why the breweries put all those chemicals in them, to make them look similar).

Could a mixture of pull/toppit, real coke bottle and dissapearing\collapsable coke bottle work?

ok.. lets go back to your basic idea.

how do you intend to prove that the glass seen on the outside of the window, is the same glass they saw on the inside?

will the glass be signed, or will the glass contain an object borrowed from one of the people watching.

Does it have to be full? Because you could do the start bit of glass through table (where it is covered with a napkin-in Mark Wilson's complete course in magic if you don't know it), then instead of smashing it through the table lift it to the window and push it through there? It's the most visual method I can think of, but it can only be done sat at a table and you need to do something with the extra you are left with (hope that doesn't reveal too much).
Just a thought.

Do those bottles work in reverse ? I mean, if i had one collapsed in my hand could i place my hand against a wall and apparently pull it out the wall with my other hand ?
If that would work then using this and the bottle through table/body gimmick with a toppit may be an idea. Stick (or get someone to hold) a sheet of newspaper against the window. Wrap a genuine beer bottle in a large napkin or bit of paper (with bottle through body gimmick in place) Tap the window to show its solid as the real bottle is toppited, and do the penatration. At the same time your assistant is outside with the collapsible one (collapsed) pressed against the window, the gimmick will be hidden because of the newspaper. At the same time as you are apparently pushing the bottle through your friend will be pulling it out. If timed correctly it should give the illusion of the bottle visibly passing through the window. A quick switch of the gimmick bottle with a real one by your friend on his way back in would complete the illusion :)
Of course if the collapsible bottle doesnt work in reverse then this whole post is pointless

Yes they work in reverse but you have to take a little more care to make it convincing. But yes it can be done.
