Help please - can't remember the name of this effect...

Hi - a while ago i was taught a puzzling little effect where a single playing card was folded, and a flap was created in the centre of the card (like a trap door). You would have the spectator hold this card by just the flap, close their eyes and not let go. You quickly fold the card, and seconds later they open their eyes to find they are still holding the flap (having never let go), but the other side of the card is now facing them. No gimmicks.

Would really appreciate if somebody could point me in the right direction for finding this again.

Thanks,
G

I have just such a card in front of me... left over from the first Manchester meetup I went along to... but while I don't know the name of the trick, I know for sure that some users do - so sit tight. :)

It's not quite stargate. The effect with a single card is David Britland's Trapdoor Card, which is a handling for Bob Neale's Trapdoor (which was done with a file card).

Stargate is two Trapdoor cards stuck together.

Bob's original is in Lifesavers, Britland's version was in the Magic Menu 1-5, Stargate is a commercial effect.

Hope that clears things up :)

Initial investigations have also shown Robert Neale to have a "Trapdoor Card" effect, which looks like a large version of the playing card one I had previously seen.

Robert Neale's Trapdoor, and several more of his effects, can be found in SW Paper Magic by Karl Fulves.
