I'd love to say that sucked, (because that is the way I am) but you did a great job with the effect. And that is the point, you didn't and nobody should concentrate on the move. In the way you presented the effect the french drop happened to be the 'correct' sleight and of course the move itself was done well.
The problem I find is that many magi, when using the move they use it in a way that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Or it is a move that doesn't suit them as a magician.
For me, for example I use a vanish taught to me by Albert Goshman. I forget the proper name, but you actually toss the coin from one hand to the other. I used to use the retention vanish exclusivly (the Goshman version is still a retention vanish except the hands never come close to one another). I soon learned that different situations and different effects called for different methods. Lucky for me, I learned the lesson early.
