Being new to magic I'm keen to go and watch a very good close up magician performing live so I can just watch their style and see how they use misdirection in their act. More of a learning experience rather than enjoying a show. Anyone know of anything coming up? I'm in the Worcester area (which on the whole avoids excitement and non-drinking entertainment activities and shows). More than happy to travel to watch an expert of sleight of hand performing so if anyone knows of any coming up please could you let me know. Thanks.

Maybe, join a magic club, if you're not in one already, make friends, and also watch other magicians perform, pick up advice from them.

I sometimes work in bars and restaurants, in Birmingham - my closest currently is a restaurant in Lichfield.

I'm possibly thinking someone should kick-start the thread about a Birmingham meet up, and get some solid numbers on who is interested - hmmm...

but as neil is "new to magic" he'll have to audition to join a society and prove he can perform, so that he can learn enough to be able to perform ...
