thought i would start a new thread....

First impressions, Stephen K Amos would make a good host. Its a shame they showed the end of the effect in every trailer for the show, Oh No not fricken smash and Stab again!!!!!!! no matter how many cups you have its still not magic. Particually when you show it going wrong. It then turns into a game of chance. and it was waaaaaay too long.
I like Sam Womack though. But i always have done.

Loved the invisible tricks, I made one of those head vanishes years ago, and would realy love the one that they used. Much more portable.
The Ticket through the window was sweet, and didnt use the usual method.
luis routined some well known effects in a great, entertaining way.Proving its not what you do.
I really loved the bunny productions. It bought back happy memories of watching Edwin, and Ian Adair demm some of their effects.

The Dino production was possiblly the weekest effect, Was the T.Rex one of Nimbus? Tom... Was it your handy work?

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

The T Rex was probably the one in the Natural History museum, although they all seem to look alike to me! That show was the one recorded on a Sunday and its no wonder the tickets weren't available on Audiencestore, I bet all those kiddiewinks were invited specially! IMHO, it was the best of the televised ones so far, apart from the close ups of Chris Tarrant’s tootsies... :?

I was really disappointed by the first episode, but since then, I'm actually enjoying it...

Lenny Henry's tolerable, but I've been really impressed with Chris Korn. Barry and Stuart have also been really good. Apart from the obvious faults (and the first episode...), it's not been a bad series.

ticket through the window was sweet, but the highlight of the show was seeing sam womack. That is pure eye candy!!
I agree though, smash and stab was way too long. Chris Tarrant on it bothered me though. Can't stand him!!!

The best of the bunch so far, but smash and stab did go on. I like it if it's presented well but that just seemed to drag on forever. I loved Barry and Stuart's camel production.

Seconded. I thought it was one of their strongest pieces so far.

I saw the first episode, and I don't think anything anyone can post here will make me waste a second hour. Life is too short.

I've quite enjoyed the last two shows. But that's possibly because my expectations were corrected by a first episode that set the bar so impossibly low.

Sounds like viewing figures are good too - which could be good news in the push to get more magic on the gogglebox.

I couldn't stand it. Yes Barry and Stuarts street card trick was good, but that's the only trick this season that's actually original. I watched most of the episode in fast-forward mode just to get the jist for when we dis it at the magic club.

Every trick so far has been store bought, performed as the instructions described only with 2 performers involved rather than 1. Its been bad and the only real challenge in the show is how the magicians can make themselves look good while dragging along a celebrity with them, and giving them something to 'hold' until they are got rid off.

I mean, how many ways can you produce a rabbit? lets use every kids-show prop in existence in one long, drawn-out routine. None of which were getting any reactions form the audience until told to react by the stagehand.

How many ways can you put your hand down on an empty cup?

How many 'spectators' can you call onto the stage, supposedly randomly picked yet wearing a label microphone!!!!!

How many forfeit challenges can you have where you stand on coal / nails / glass etc. I mean, their practically all the same for crying out loud!

Once you've produced a car, helicopter, camel, dance-group, Dino etc. all using the exact same method, you have to wonder why?
When are they going to do something different?
They produced Lenny at the start of the show, at least that used a different method, even if the top box was completely irrelevant.

The so-called 'theme' is what? Animals? Out of the nine tricks presented, only three matched the theme. I mean, if that's the case, whats the point of having a theme at all?

There's just so many bad things about it that's it difficult to enjoy it.

And as for the ratings, its only getting them because there is nothing else on. If X-Factor, I'm a Celebrity, Britain's Got Talent, Harry Hill or any other decent ITV show was on at the same time, the whole audience would be watching them instead. There just lucky that the only thing on the other channels at the moment are re-runs of Coronation street and a stupid dating show called Take Me Out, which makes Magicians look watchable, and that's saying something!

Stand on a cold lino floor in bare feet.
Go to the shop at the end of the road wearing only your slippers.

My finger hovered over the button this week but the wife reminded me of last week's "knitting needles in eyes" promise. Tribute to Pete Postlethwaite BBC2 1930 = infinitely preferable.

Haven't heard much criticism of Barry and Stuart; am I the only poster here who finds them completely devoid of personality?

Thats not quite true. Another reason why th eratings for this show are healthy is, if tweets, and facebook comments are anything to go by, Lay audiences LIKE this show.

Several lay friends of mine have made a point of telling me how much they have been enjoying it. One of whoms son, now has decided that he wants to take up magic. Hes taught him a couple of things, and has asked me for advice on books.. And ive offered lessons if he wants them.

The other reason why people are watching, kis sceduling. It is on right before the Lottery and people do tune in to check their numbers, and will catch the show, or at least part of it.
