I did a little while back. People just grabbing the cards and going on the internet trying to find out the secrets of magic. But after a while they stooped and magic came back into my life.

For me the problem was summed up as,

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you shouldn't.

I got to a stage where people would get to know my magic, but not get to know me, I didn't like that, so I decided to drop the magic. A pack of cards is very easy to hide behind.

Now I feel more confident in myself, and I realise that magic is a part of me, and I am a part of the magic, but I am still careful not to force magic on people. I can talk to people without showing them magic. If I do show some magic, I remember that less is more, and I don't go on and on and on, like I might have done in my more youthful days.

I would hate me if I went back in time and met me - arghhhh bad magic.

I lost interest in performing when I was 20, for various reasons. Mainly because the magician is an actor playing the part of a magician, and when I was 13 I lost all interest in acting in youth theatre and moved backstage. Now, sixteen years on, I've spent over half my life involved or working professionally behind the scenes. I'm no performer.

Still very, very interested in principles, history, stage technology, etc - love reading Steinmeyer's books and have various books on illusion and Victorian stage machinery - but with the exception of Card Warp every now and then, I never perform tricks.

I now work as a stage technician/carpenter/propsman though, so it's good having the reference material, background, and odd remaining contact.
