Creator: Tom Mullica
Packaging Quality: The whole package is supplied in plastic Wrap. Usual wallet style and instructions
Instructions Quality: Basic. Anyone purchasing this product should have a basic knowledge of card magic as the instructions do not contain images. Only the basic effect is taught but card to wallet is the ultimate climax to an infinite number of card effects.
Contents: You are supplied with the ‘Mullica Card to Wallet’ which of course comprises of a large outer wallet and a smaller inner wallet, as well as printed instructions.
Prop Quality: The wallets feel very nice to handle and the smaller wallet fits perfectly inside the larger one. The ‘load’ of the card into the wallet is ridiculously simple leaving you to concentrate on your presentation
Initial Thoughts: Well first of all, I need to say that I think having a signed card appear inside a wallet, inside another wallet is overkill and illogical. The whole idea of card to wallet is that the card appears in an apparently normal wallet. Who has ever seen a wallet that has another wallet inside?
When I first opened the package that is what I thought and how I started this review. However, after spending more time working with the wallet and talking to other magicians, my opinion has dramatically changed. As long as you have a strong presentation and a reason for the internal wallet the effect CAN actually be stronger than a standard ‘card to wallet’.
My presentation idea is to turn the inner wallet into what looks like a cheque book holder. At the start of the routine you can write a dummy cheque as a wager that relies on you finding the spectators signed card. When all else fails and you have apparently ‘lost’ the card, you reach into your wallet and remove the cheque book holder, (which the spectators have already seen and therefore wont question) the chosen card is found inside.
You have the choice of either performing this with or without palming, although this is specifically designed to be a ‘no-palm card to wallet’ and the ‘no-palm’ load is very easy. This makes this wallet an ideal choice for anyone who wants to perform a ‘card to wallet’ routine and is perfect for beginners as there is virtually no sleight of hand required.
After Playing for a while: I am really looking forward to performing with this wallet as it allows me to deliver an amazing effect without resorting to hard-core sleight of hand, (as I usually do, it’s nice to have a break, no pun intended). The great thing about playing with this wallet for a while is that the whole time I have been playing, it has been developing my presentation and not worrying about mechanics or methods.
First Performance: I performed this to a fellow magician who hadn’t seen a Mullica wallet before. He now wants to buy one as he really likes the effect and will retire his standard card to wallet in favour of the presentation I showed him.
Overall Audience Reaction: Very good. If this presentation and wallet impress a magician enough to want to perform it in his close-up act then I know for sure that a lay person will love the kicker ending.
Pros: Looks nice, works well
Cons: If I had to find a negative it would be that the wallet is not hip sized and is easier to carry in a jacket, but that is just being picky as most working professionals will wear jackets anyway.
Value for Money: Well worth it, ‘brilliant card to wallet’.
