I recently read in The Times about a new book - a general publication and not one solely for the magician - where a husband and wife, (both psychologists) had examined why Magic tricks/effects/illusions work - from a Psychologists standpoint.

Does anyone know the name of this book / authors / anyone bought it?

It's Sleights of Mind my Stephen Macknik and his wife whose name I can't recall. Dr. Macknik came and spoke to the psych department at my university last December and I got to sit in and listen to complicated neuroscience talk.

I read the book last month and found it to be very interesting. The loose plot he tried to add about his and his wife's audition to become gold-pinned members of the Magic Castle isn't that great, but the meat of the book-- the science of magic-- is excellent.

I'm reading it at the moment and am thoroughly enjoying it.

I picked this book up a few days ago and I think that it is excellent. The points they are getting across are excellent and it is well worth reading. Up to now I have only read three chapters and they use magic at times to keep you intreagued.

It's about neuroscience, not psychology - not quite the same thing. The authors make it quite clear that they're not psychologists.

I found it very interesting, especially to update myself on stuff that I learnt in the Seventies which is now out of fashion.
