First time Succesfull hypnosis!

Postby TheMentalist » Feb 13th, '11, 14:53

Yesterday at a party a good friend asked me to show a trick, as i am known as a mentalist/magician person and there was a deck of playing cards available. i tried to do a mental card force thingy, but it didn't work. now i am one to get frustrated when something doesn't work, and i definitely don't want to end with a failure.
i took a couple of second to think of something, and i remembered earlier that day we talked about hypnosis... i never did real hypnosis, i do bunch of pseudo-hypnosis, and i know i am good with suggestion for my level of experience, so i thought what the hell, just go for it!
i suddenly asked if i could borrow her arm and made a hand-shacking gesture, and went into a palm to face induction. when I gave the sleep command it just worked, wonderful. after a little "Deepening" i tried to suggesting an arm levitation. as magic her arm just started going up relatively fast, then i suggested her face was a big magnet and when her hand touched her face it was the funniest thing ever. that too worked! later again in the kitchen, this time i just looked her in the eyes seriously, snapped my fingers and said Sleep. she just followed, when i told her to relax every muscle in her body, she slowly collapsed on the floor, a little unexpected, but easily managed. i did the same things, plus suggested her hand was stuck, had a little more trouble with that, but it eventually worked.

i also noticed i wasn't nervous at all, which i normally am trying out new stuff. it was a real confidence booster anyway, and surprisingly easy!

Congratulations! , I've never had the fortitude to do it myself yet so fair play for giving it a go. I suppose it's one of those things where once you have done it once ou have the confidence to do it all the time?

As far as I can see, the only time you fail is when you pick a subject that doesn't want to pretend to be hypnotised.

Don't be afraid of failure. Fear will hold you back and needs to be conquered.

as said above, you need to be confident about yourself, this is becouse the subject needs to believe there under "Hypnosis", you can have a pseudo-hypnosis effect as a back up i suppose.
reality is Plastic i liked a lot, Anthony Jacquin's Dvd are also absolutely fantastic.

Well done that man!

I have to say, the first time you pull off a successful hypnosis is a FAR bigger thrill than accomplishing the world's boldest billet switch. That's probably because it's so 'real' and gives you a feeling more akin to a delivering a really good reading. Anyone who's read Paul V's 'Reader of Minds' will empathise with the thrill he got from delivering a mediumistic performance but a good hypnosis display beats even that imho.

I learnt from a non-entertainment source, strictly hypnotherapy although that learning has been greatly backed up by Ant Jacquin's material, Reality is Plastic and The Manchurian Approach, both of which I can't recommend highly enough. Either or both of those will give anyone all they need to go out there and do it!

I like the stuff that James Tripp puts on his site. I recieved some formal hypnosis training and I learned more after that rather than during it.

If nothing else it is an enjoyable read and watch (Video)

A lot of effects that you probably know already can often be altered to utilise hypnosis, have a look through your repetoire and think about where hypnosis might be used to good effect. If you haven't already, then I thoroughly recommend buying The Manchurian Approach DVD, it gives you some excellent thinking regarding hypnotic forces and peeks which should give you more than enough ideas for hypnotic effects of your own.
