Multiple object counting technique

Postby Heavy on the Magik » Feb 17th, '11, 15:04

Hi again.

Recently i saw a magician perform an effect where upon he had a tray of marbles. A spectator was invited to remove some handfulls of them, and then the magician (who was blindfolded) - quickly removed his blindfold, took a quick look and guessed how many there was.

He was accurate to within 10 marbles. I believe there where about 200 or so.

Anyone point me to a book or something where i can perhaps learn this?

Im pretty sure Derren Brown did something similair with buttons - i did locate an old post about this but there doesnt appear to be any references to books etc.

I'm sure if you let it weigh on your mind for a while you could figure it out.

So...if this pans out during the routine somebody had to count all those marbles? Talk about boring.

Mr Brown made it very entertaining, if you ask me.

While the secret puns are funny  , I'm fairly sure Mr Brown did not use that patricular method as it looks like a variation of a method from the 1930's which Luke Jermay published in his 'Bigger Three' manuscript in the counting smarties routine.

I'm sure Mr. Brown made it very exciting. There are not that many Mr. Brown's out there. Just saying.
