Waterstones

Postby Grimshaw » Mar 14th, '11, 13:13

Not sure if this is something they're doing over every branch, but I walked into Waterstones in Bath the other day and was surprised to see a big old display heading 'Pick a card, any card...'.

Underneath it was a selection of magic books such as Bobo's, Derren's Trick Of The Mind, and Rapaport's Houdini (recommended).

Done off the back of the recent spate of magic shows you think?

I often look in Waterstones' elsewhere in hope of finding some good magic reads and usually it is very poorly catered for. I'm glad to hear they've noticed there is a market for it, even if it is off the back of the TV show.

Waterstones usually hide the magic stuff in the section marked, 'Indoor Games' which is quite ironic as there's often a copy or two of Paul Zenon's 'Street Magic' in there!

Both the Waterstones up here have Mysterio's Encyclopedia of Magic and Conjuring at the minute, and often have Paul Zenon's books too.
I also picked up Encyclopedia of Card Tricks there, so always worth a look.

I have seen the paperback version of Royal Road in there from time to time too.

It's good for books of local ghost stories and the like as well, which is pretty handy for the kind of stuff I enjoy doing.

Also got the Fortune Teller's Bible from there, which is definitely worth a read if you're interested in readings...

I bought Practical Mental Magic, published by Dover from Waterstones. I also got some Hugard books, also Dover. A lot of books on Houdini, two biographies of Dai Vernon were also bought by me in Waterstones.
