Help with routine

Postby cc100 » Mar 20th, '11, 20:55

Hello,

Firstly, apologies for yet another Derren Brown/3-card routine related post. I'm just trying to practise the first part of it, but I can't seem to do the impromptu haunted deck effect. I was wondering if anyone could suggest an alternative to this effect in order to reveal the first (well, actually the second) card. So, the position I'm in is that three cards have been chosen and controlled to the top of the deck. I thought about pretending to remember the position of the cards and doing a false cut, but didn't think it particularly good as I've just tried to convince the audience that the cards are genuinely lost.

Any suggestions on any different moves I could use to reveal the first card would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Is that the same as a backslip? If so, while it's a good idea, I'm not sure whether it would work as obviously the 3 cards need to be together for the d.l. and top change. If it isn't, I do apologise for my general lack of knowledge and experience :)

The slip wont work here. The problem with finding an alternative is (as youve mentioned) the set up at this point.
In the Magic of Michael Ammar there is an effect called 'Double Color Change' which has an idea that would work here. I dont know if the move belongs to J.K Hartman, or is a variation of his move, the book doesnt make this clear. Essentialy it looks like youve cut a card from the centre and turned it face up on the deck. Its actually a sort of DL - though it can easily be done with three. (its not the popover move)
