Peek wallet specific questions

Postby Yano » Mar 22nd, '11, 08:04

I've looked into the showdown wallet abit and from what i can tell its a really really great switching wallet (internal and external). But from some research it doesn't have a traditional SUC for a clean peek?

I was wondering is there any other wallet similar to this? Cause i love the identical horizontal pockets allowing for a very open switch and the external switches. The inside wallet peek is great too like SAW. But one other thing i really wanted is the original SUC for like swami writing and peek. These are the 3 main things i really want.

Does a wallet with all these features exist? Or am i gonna have to buy SAW and Showdown to have these great features?

Peeki from J. Prager, might be what your looking for?

Note, it won't let you do switches but it's the best peek wallet I've used to date.

For $7, how can you go wrong?

well sounds alright but doesn't meet what i need ... cause SUC is a bare minimum for what i want atleast for my mentalism wallet. But thanks i had a look, but i don't think its what I'm gonna buy.

The Showdown does have a great alternative to the SUC - it's a great all-round wallet for pretty much every "wallet related" activity.

Yup I'm not 100% on showdowns peek but i think its something similar to the original stealths peek, which opens the wallet, i love that peek but ye :<. Looks like i'll just have to buy both to get the best out of a wallet with switching and peeking.

I have the Showdown - the "alternative" is great... what exactly are you looking to do? I'd still not rule it out as a single wallet solution...

I stated what i wanted in my 1st post, i'll reword it abit to make it more clear.

    1. Very open switch like Showdown cause of the Horizontal Pockets, External switches would be a bonus.
    2. Inside wallet peek, similar to SAW or Stealth but i think Showdown has this peek.
    3. SUC for peek, swami

Basically I'm after a Showdown with the original SUC, to my knowledge. So i was wondering does such a wallet exist? I like SAW cause of the peeks and OTL, but not having OTL isnt a problem for me.

I've got a Showdown on order and it should be arriving any day. As soon as it arrives and I've had a chance to look I'll post. If it might help, you can PM me so we can talk plainly about what you'd like to do and whether it's poss. with the Showdown.

Thanks Caligari, just one question is the only place to buy this wallet is from http://www.outlaw-effects.com/store/the ... wdown.html? or is there other sites that sell it?

Why not a Stealth Assassin? Maybe I'm misunderstanding some of the terms you've used but I've certainly used it for:

1 - Switches
2- Peeks
3 - SUC (inc Swami work)

Plus there's also an OTL option thrown in too....

As I say, maybe I'm misunderstanding some of the terms but am happy to talk on PM.... and I love my Stealth Assassin!!

I know the difference between tempting and choosing my fate

QUESTION: Do you plan on being a "Mentalist" or a "Magician"?

CONSIDER: Mentalists don't need trick wallets, we have numerous other techniques that are far cleaner (physically & psychologically). While they may require a bit of patience and practice, they are superior to James Bond styled Mental Magic.

Magicians seem to "need" the nifty gadgets (we're addicted to such things) but at the end of the day 90% of those neat and nifty bits end up in a drawer somewhere and rarely viewed as "practical" the deeper we move into "the work". . . as we discover the value of cleanliness and simplicity and why, placing something written by another person into your own wallet creates suspicion albeit, subconsciously; it becomes a mechanism that one can back-track to when trying to figure out "how it was done". On the other hand, a skilled bit of billet work nixes such things and when done properly, leaves the patron no "out" while leaving the performer with far more freedom and flexibility -- especially when he's asked to do something and finds that the wallet isn't on hand

Maybe less codependency on devices and more application when it comes to skill, would be a bit more logical?

As far as I'm aware, that's the case, though you could try Merlin's of Wakefield. They carry a lot of Outlaw stuff and may have some wallets in stock.

Here we go

Mentalists don't need trick wallets, but in the right hands and with the right presentation, I really do believe it can heighten an effect and allow for a more "real-world" experience with a spectator (the billets/cards/money came from the wallet... an everyday wallet... why not involve it?). Of course, items like this should never be a straight replacement for old-fashioned skill, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a "mentalist" adding another tool to their belt. Especially if that tool helps the performer... perform!

I totally agree Craig, but speaking only for myself, as a newbie I'm not as skilled at billet work as I need to be, so therefore I choose not to use those techniques publicly until I am more polished. That leaves me with a dilemma. I want to 'perform' (only for friends and family at this stage) to give me the opportunity to practise patter and presentation. That's one of the reasons I ordered the wallet as I want to supplement the magic that I can do with some good wallet effects.

Long term though, I'm certain that you're correct and the wallet will remain tucked away. I'm not yet skilled enough to perform mentalism convincingly. Until I am, I enjoy using a limited number of we'll chosen props.

I was a little confused, too, Klangster. The Stealth Assassin can do all of those things he mentioned. It really is a great wallet.

One other question for the original poster - why can't you use something like the outlaw pantera wallet? It's primary functions are peeks and pw/swami work - but, depending on what you're switching, you can use it to switch as well.

I would highly recommend NOT getting 2 wallets. As Craig mentioned - you're already treading on dangerous water, nothing would be more dangerous than a scenario like:

"Now, write down your thought, and slip it into my OTHER WALLET".

While I can agree with Craig to a point, I still feel there are plenty of ways to justify the use of a wallet - but I would definitely not use it more than once, and only during specific situations. I know the ad copy for these always say "an entire act in your wallet", but if you keep going back to the same prop (and it will become a prop in the eyes of the audience), you're not going to fool anyone.
