I also think Uri Gellars spoon/key bend should be in the top ten, top five even. The way he captured the imagination of not only the public, but other magicians as well was phenomenal.

I would have thought P&T's bullet catch was more representitive of their qualitry than cut-and-resorted snake...

Well the snake is at number 33 & bullet catch is at number 11 so that's about right isn't it?

Im recording it. Its a shame we get to see clip shows, more often than a whole trick though. :)

Excellent...something to either look forward tonight

The trick at number 3 is probably the greatest trick I have ever seen

Are you watching closely? Then I'll begin...

So what did everyone think of the new version?

I felt the editing could have been a bit better, some of the most important and amazing parts of some tricks were left out.

The choice of clips were a bit better than the original 2002 version though, quite a few performances from "Fool Us" were included.

I thought the order was a bit haphazard and wonder how the voting was done. Enjoyed the show though.

Just watched it this morning, never saw it originally so i thought it was excellent :)

It just shows how so many forms of magic can be entertaining when performed well, from card tricks {such as Piffs} to the grand illusions such as David Copperfields 'Flying'.

I actually think Death Saw is one of the very best of Copperfields, so much drama involved too.

Great also to be reminded of the skill of Paul Daniels with his Chop Cup routine.

On a personal level, I am not really a fan of tricks that involve blood but Pete Firmans routine i have seen before, it is very well done.
The coin trick by Criss Angel is not something I would want to see too often though!

Have always liked Paul Zenons pool ball card trick and I remember being amazed by the Floating Lightbulb many years ago.

I too was surprised the Statue of Liberty vanish was not included, from the original list I personally would have kept Hans Morettis Crossbow in and as for storytelling decks, surely Sam The Bellhop by Bill Malone is more entertaining than the one shown?

But overall, yes a well enjoyable couple of hours of Magic on TV :D

I think you'll find this one is rather better:

ENTERTAINMENT: Heroes of Magic
On: more4 (138)
Date: Monday 2nd January 2012 (starting this evening)
Time: 23:05 to 01:10 (2 hours and 5 minutes long)

One hundred years of magic is celebrated in this extravaganza, which charts the art form from the heyday of music hall to the pioneering days of television, from contemporary street magicians to the superstars of Las Vegas. Rare vintage clips capture the mystery and enchantment, with an impressive line-up of over 30 great magicians, embracing star names of the television age, as well as those from the early days of theatre and cinema. Heroes of Magic explores the fascinating role of show business wizardry, from the time of magicians like Houdini, John Nevil Maskelyne and David Devant, to the mind-boggling magic of modern-day performers, who have taken their tricks on to the streets.
(Repeat, Subtitles, 4 Star)

50 great tricks was a good show. I didnt agree with all the choices, but thats the way it goes i guess.
One thing did annoy me though.

Im not going to mention names... but i really hate it when a magician, (who has an incredibly big back room staff inventing and creating special pieces of magic for him, often uncredited) goes on television and talks about "My Invention" and "my idea" and " all my own work".

And then you get Drake, and Daniels 2 incredibly imaginitive guys , sit down and name check Pat Page, and Ali Bongo.

seriously, this annoys the hell out of me like you wouldnt believe!

( and i still don't get the joke with Piff... just not my cup of tea)

I really like Piff and was really annoyed i didn't think of it first! It is such an obvious thing to do yet no one thought of it.

I enjoyed watching the show - it's magic, of course, but...
I feel like they chose the effects on which TV companies would let them have the footage, rather than what was good or not,
likewise... the order was dictated by putting the dangerous stuff, with guns towards the end of the show, later in the night, not the order it should have been. Although the double bullet catch IS good.

Finally, who were the non-magician celebrities - do we really need a doctor to tell us that a trick where the effect is eating cigarettes is not recommended? Well thanks for that!
