Nice effect. Just work on getting it a bit smoother at the critical moment.
As for patter there are many options with an effect like this, but im not going to mention any. I think your patter should come from you. Ive never been a fan of using someone elses 'talk'. Part of the fun (and sometimes frustration) of magic is coming up with your own presentations and patter, and is in many cases what turns a simple trick into an entertaining piece of magic.

I would suggest something along the lines of this....
A ring was bought in good faith but after tests it was proven to be fake gold. The merchant refused a refund and so the Mage used his powers to get a refund in his own special way!!
It would need beefing out but I would use something like that!
