I was directed to this site by my wife, who says I have spent a lot of time on here. I have a medical condition call Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. I recently had a bad attack which has caused memory loss. Initially all my memory was lost and I was found wandering near my home. I have had some of my memory return e.g. who my family are etc but one of the things I am told I did was perform magic. As I siad my wife directed me here and luckily my password was saved on the computer.

I have looked at some of my posts and wondered if any one here has any suggestions that may help me recover more of my memory.

Just grab a pack of cards and play around. You never know, it might just come back to you!

My husband Colin used to get blackouts in the 1970s, probably from post-traumatic stress syndrome (before anyone knew there was such a thing). His all-time record was somehow making his way from Beirut to New York over a period of several days before he "woke up". Still has no idea how he managed it, much less why.

So, in the scheme of things, you can at least be assured that it could be a lot worse! And it's likely to get better in time, especially if you have support from family and friends. Be sure to get as much help as you can from your GP.

Anxiety UK has some useful information and help for PTSD. There's also a PTSD website that was set up for ex-servicemen but is open to civilians as well.

Support groups can be really helpful, so don't be afraid to join up. I was sceptical about them until I joined a couple (for carers and for Asperger's syndrome) and found them... well, supportive.

Thanks Robbie, I wa diagnosed about ten years ago and have had some bizarre things happen. It is just that with regards to the magic I don't have anyone at hand that can offer any help.

Support for PTSD is much better than it was even ten years ago. The initial support I recieved was to be sent back to the same situatuion that caused the problem. Thank god we have moved forwards.

I had a look fro some PMs we exchanged, but they've fallen off the end of my inbox. I seem to remember that the key to overcoming amnesia is to relax and le your mind wander, but I'm probably wrong because there are so many types.

Hypnotherapy may be helpful. Try looking here for a therapist close to you:

Do you have any magic textbooks? Equipment? I'm sure those could help to act as reminders.

Perhaps take up magic again as a beginner. Read beginners books and study the subject. As you go along it may all start coming back to you and one day you suddenly realise you are not a beginner after all!

Dear Nic.
I can sympathise, as i have some big gaps in my memory, thanks to the atack. Thankfully, not so much in the magic, although every now and again I am reminded of things, that i never knew i knew.

Thankyou for all the replies. My memory is returning slowly, but like most things the results are not as quick as you want. The good thing is it is all there, somewhere.

My wife saw me playing wife a coin and recognised some moves so it is good news. Mynotebooks are un to read it is like reading someone elses notes. At east I stil like magic and in a perverse way it is quite excting looking at all the magic books and notes I have. Now I am going to start playing with some cards and start learning some basic moves.

Thank again to everyone,

Nic
