Live Goldfish production

Postby MagicIain » Sep 14th, '04, 19:06

Just wondering if anyone does any 'goldfish production' at all...

I'm thinking of incorporating it into a one-off stage act that I might be doing in January.

Is it safe etc for the fish (and me, for that matter!)?

Is it messy?

Are there any right/wrong goldfish effects to buy or look out for?

Any help much appreciated.

dunno if this is what your looking for but theres a video clip of this sort of thing HERE

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Hi

Whilst it is a nice effect - it is not for the goldfish.

I have seen a very senior magician do it close up and produce a DEAD goldfish, as you can imagine it did not go down too well.

That production doesnt use live fish.
or at least it shouldnt. I have recently come across an effect identical to this, published in a magical mag, dating back to the 1920's. It didnt get a good review then either :D

two things to consider with any fish act, use aloevera in the bowl before you load them to reduce stress and consider hydrogel instead of water to again reduse stress.

choise of fish is realy important good breading stock and health background.

you can get fish bowls with an inner linning so bowls can be loaded without slopping all over the place, think of all the production devices that can hold a rabbit and with a little imagination you can convert then for fish.

remember with any livestock the least amount of time they are loaded before production the less likely you are to have a fatality.

i speak from personal experience i had a dove die, all i could do was give it a kiss and say shush shes sleeping as i gave it to my assistant, it put me of livestock for some time.

That is exactly why I stay clear of livestock stuff, I would imagine that Seigfried and Roy are also considering this.

i think the old saying of once bitten twice shy is relevant here I'm afraid.

its real shame that the animal suffered for doing what comes natural, i know seigfriege and roy wanted no action taken but I'm sure they will be much more carefull in the future, get well soon man.

i havant used livestock for years and like most former users I'm against useing livestock now I'm more informed about the underlying stress caused to them.

The recent news is that Roy is convinced that the tiger was only trying to protect him as he stumbled from a dizzy spell. The unfortunate part is that the tiger severed the important bits in Roy's throat in the process. I must agree with the general consensus here, animals aren't really appropriate in magic acts any more - the dove and rabbit experts will no doubt disagree but I'd prefer it if they stuck with rings, rope, cards and so on.
