Help me figure out "Cube in a tube"

Postby tryphon » Apr 29th, '11, 19:40

I bought an old "Cube in a tube" trick from someone who did not even know what it was. It came minus the base and I am building a new one for it. I am also doing some light restoration work: I think it will look alright when it's finished. My problem is: I thought this would be an easy trick to figure out, even without instructions. Well: I was wrong. Unless there are other bits missing, I can't figure out how to load the gimmick and how to do the cube to cylinder transformation. For instance, my Die cannot be shown on all sides...
Can anyone PM with a set of instructions? I am working hard on the restoration and I would like to be able to use it when it's done. Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Dale Shrimpton or Allen Tipton may be able to help you with this.

Hi Giovanni

Can I ask were you at the Magic Castle last October because me and my son were there and at the next table was a gentleman called Giovanni. He showed a couple of excellent routines particularly one with a coin reappearing on top of the salt pot. My son proclaimed it the best magic he saw during our trip (and we saw a lot).

If it was you I wish to say thank you and I am pretty sure I have a set of instructions I could let you have (if I can find them).

David.

Dear David,
I am afraid it was not me! I know that there is a professional magician named Giovanni who lives here in the US and I also know that he is much better than I am!!!
I am an amateur who's been doing magic for about thirty years, but strictly non professional! I lived in the UK for ten years and I was an associate of the Magic Circle. I still treasure the memories of those meetings! Giovanni is my real name.

I felt it must be you as I looked up his website and he is also based in Florida.

Never mind and all the best.

No problem!
By the way, if you find that instructions sheet, I'd really appreciate a scan.
Have a great weekend!
Giovanni
PS: I saw your catalog and you have some great products!

Giovanni

I've scanned the instructions as a PDF but it seems to be too big to attach to a pm. So if you pm me your normal email address I'll email them to you.
Of course once you give me your email address you'll get put on my mailing list so there's a price to pay. :D

Regards.

I performed a homemade cardboard version of this trick at a friend's birthday party when I was a child. The instructions on how to build it and how to perform it are published in a magic book somewhere but they aren't in any of them that I still have here so I'm guessing it may have been one of the many magic books I borrowed from the Kent County Libraries when I was young.
My memory is that I considered it a pretty naff trick but very large and colourful, however when I performed it the folks at the party were all baffled by it. I think that was the only time I ever performed it, although the large cardboard dice that I made I used as a box to store my magic tricks in for quite a few years afterwards.

I will send a private message of what I remember of how to perform it, although take note that I may be wrong as it was many years ago.
