WHY ? because there are things u just cant do alone.. and u can enhance ure magic with a extra helper

now here is my question does anyone know good references for magic tricks that are done with 2 magicians...?

or any ideas that i dont already have for tricks like that

There's plenty of scope for double acts in mentalism, Corinda and Annemann have both got lots on the subject.

I bet a folded billet routine with two people would be easier and much more deceptive. The possibilities for misdirection and juggling one-aheads and peeks and such would be much wider than a single performer.

There is also the Ching Ling Foo paper tear that uses 2 people, but the focus would only be on one person.

Using codes etc (I think 13 steps has a section called two person telepathy or something) you could acheive some very poweful effects.

EDIT: Think of all the lovely misdirection opportunities as well!

@spooney yeah its really nice! u got misdirection all u want... and when u need to setup a deck or whatever:P u just step back and let the other misdirect them with a trick.. let him take the heat..

Check out The Evansons - the ultimate two person mentalism act. It will take a lot of work, but you need to do a two person code act. Anything else is wasting an opportunity

Annemann's En Rapport is a complete act for 2 people. It's an older book, but anything by Annemann is certainly worth a look. It's available on lybrary.com for $4 - so you can't beat that.

Another option would be Jack Kent Tillar's Duet - which is a fantastic book showcasing a 2 person mentalism show. There's the traditional route (as discussed in this thread) but there are other options for different kinds of effects. Really great effect.

I have a 2-man routine that I've been developing, but haven't had the opportunity to really work (I don't have a partner at the moment). It's not an earth-shattering routine, but it might be something of interest. PM me if you want to talk about it.

I can see this being very useful in writing and loading predictions in "real time" (like a human swami+billet pencil). As for magic, you can create some inexpensive illusions (or some expensive ones!) or even buy them. These are often idealy suited for a two person performance. Perhaps something like the "haunted house" or "arabian tent illusion" (not sure if these are the exact names) that I think are in mark wilsons, and can be made from cardboard or wood quite quickly and easily.

I have a gag routine that I use with other magicians from time to time if we are working the same room.

What happens is that my participant selects a card and I pretend I can't find it. I then call over to my colleague saying "Hey, which card did this lady choose?" and he replies, naming the correct card. We alternate throughout the evening.

There are endless ways to add fun to this, using fake code words to transmit the card etc.

The method? I don't mind tipping it, it's good fun. We force the cards, using a stack sequence like EK or SS.

If I begin, I'll force the first in the sequence so my colleague knows to name the first card - say 8C. When my colleague takes his turn and asks me for the name of a card, I know he'll have forced the next in the sequence - KH.

Make up your own script and gags.

Looking at Penn and Teller you see an example of how any magic can be presented by two people. It is more about there style and performance that makes it work.

I always perform solo so I don't have experience in it, but by addapting an effect to you style as a duo you open more doors meaning there could me better oportunities for performing.

It's not just about two person method. Don't forget, there's so much you can do presentation wise with two people that can't be done with one person

As said by Nic, Penn and Teller are a great example of this (double bullet catch and the sawing the woman in half where Penn pushes the saw down just when Teller is waving the safety mechanism around)

Morgan and West are another different but still rather excellent duo. Almost all of their tricks I've seen are based on classics, but with two people the presentation goes one step further and is extremely unique
