Can you hear that? Nope, me neither. Its silence!

The girls are fast asleep and I'm setting down for nice evening in front of a film. They've been a nightmare to get to sleep lately, Yazmina in particular, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Twinkle Twinkle and Hush Little Baby have all failed. So what is my new secret weapon, Bob Marley, two minute of No Woman No Cry and they're sleeping like, well babies.

I'm going to have to remember that one. :D

Same thing that helps me sleep. But then I sleep with black sabbath on and for a period at uni Lou Reed metal machine music. I recommend listening to some of these though

I think I might know why. The rhythm is close to the rhythm of the heartbeat they heard in the womb. I remember when O Superman came out. People discovered that it also helped babies sleep.

Why does this remind me of what was on Boing Boing recently, a children's book for adults with a fairly NSFW name...

I was at the same school (and boarding house) as MB. I read in Smash Hits that he was expelled. He was not. You read it here first.

Lady of Mystery, that's just wonderful! I was also very unorthodox playing music for my three sons, they have good taste for music now :)

You can buy CDs of womb sounds and heartbeats.
No idea how effective they are though.

When my sons were babies and wouldn't sleep we found that a taking them on a ride in the car did the trick, the swaying and bobbing about seemed to relax them. Very quickly I also discovered that I didn't need to actually drive any where, just put them in the carry cot, on the back seat and gently bounce the car up and down by pushing on the rear wing!

Now that's what I call a car - cable brakes, no synchromesh, real leather bucket seats as standard and you just have to love those wire spokes!

Who said having babies was difficult!? Bob Marley has saved the day (or night). I bought a CD on Tuesday and have played it low through the night for the last two nights. Both girls slept right through on Tuesday, something which has never happened and last night, not a peep from Abi and Yazmina only woke the once.

So for any other frantic parents, get yourself a copy of Bob Marley's Greatest Hits.

I've always found The Sisters of Mercy works a treat. It has to be the later stuff, but not the Vision Thing album, which is packed with expletives.
